Have I been stupid? Towbar question.

Hi folks,

I bought my S4 a few weeks ago 8) and on the first weekend had a good tidy out to get rid of any little bits of junk I found. In the little 'cubbyhole' in the boot (offside) where the warning triangle is kept there was a small cable assembly that I decided was part of an old cycle carrier they must have fitted. After some deliberation I decided it was useless to me and so discarded it!

Last night, I was going through the tools in the spare wheel section and to my suprise found a towbar (upon further inspection I found where it fixes in under the rear bumper - may be handy one day I thought). :D

It wasn't untill this morning it dawned on me  . Is there a cable assembly that plugs in under the car for the trailer electrics? If so what do they look like? Anyone got one. I assume it must be an original Audi item, as there is a perfect place for the towbar bracket formed out of the polystyrene tool carrier.

Any thoughts?

It might be adapter between plugs, from my very limited knowledge of caravans. I believe caravan plugs have more pins in them than ones just for trailers and it maybe the adapter cable (13 pin to 7 pin) that you threw away.

There should be some sort of pull down assembly with the electrical connections, should be adjacent to the towbar mount behind the bumper, probably need a close look with a torch.

Cheers GottanS - I'll get chance to crawl under her tonight to have a good look. I know nothing about towbar stuff so will be in the dark in more than one way.

Cheers
