Cruise Control Question

Does anyone know if when you are on cruise control and use the button to decrease speed, enough that the brakes are applied, do the brake lights come on?

I've been doing this when Police cars catch up with me on motorways, and have been assuming that the lights don't come on.

I didn't think there was a decrease option on the cruise
There is increase/resume (not sue if the wording is correct), on or off. If you switch it off, your speed will obviously decrease (unless you have a heavy right foot ), but does not apply the brakes.

Maybe my version is newer. I have a switch, on the stalk which also has a third, unlatched position which increases the speed. Then I have a button on the end of the stalk which sets the speed if cruise has just been turned on, but if cruise is already on it decreases speed.

If I keep this button held, it feels as if the brakes are applied slightly. However now that I think about it, maybe the braking is from the engine.

Anyone else have this system?

Same system, but I have never tried holding it in when at a constant speed.

I'm pretty sure it's an engine brake. When I have mine set say at 40 mph in 6th, and it is downhill the car will creap above 40.

Not sure how much engine brake you get in 6th, I always drop it down a cog or two to get good engine braking .

I guess you're right. When I've been going a bit too fast I find that the button doesn't slow me down as quick as I would like, so it must be engine braking.

However I do find the cruise to be pretty accurate, I've never noticed any significant creep downhill. There again, I hardly ever use 6th at 40, and probably wounldn't be using cruise at that speed either!

my cruise speed can be increased or decreased via the stalk, like Dippys

I agree, the set up is like Dippy's but not many people take note of its function and are happy to just reset a new slower speed

However i most definitley believe it is purely engine braking

good thread though, wel done

Its a option never used in the Red beasty, cause its CBP at all times

I agree with the rest Dippy, think it's just engine braking at least on mine it is anyway.

Tried this function out this afternoon, and it works next time I'll have read the fecking manual beforehand
Definately engine braking though.
