Cracked rear subframe ........prob gonna seriously cost!!!

Not sure for the exact terminology but calling it a rear sub frame for now. It’s cracked all over the place on both sides.

Basically my mate suspects that the H&R anti roll bar has prob stressed the rear sub frame and as such I now need a new one!! There are two options get a new/second hand one and fit it, or strip this one out, weld it and put it back in.

Which ever option I am forced to choose we will weld a cross section or two to strengthen it up.

Anyone know if it's a common prob?

What models of Audi's will share the same part so that I can broaden my search?

What am I likely to pay for a new one from Audi? (My mate works for Croydon Audi so is researching this for me)

Here’s the pics:

Any info/advice most welcome

Yes, this is a well documented fault Russ. MRC sell a strengthening bracket now because they'd seen so many cars with cracked subframes. From the looks of those pics, you might be better off getting a 2nd hand unit rather than repairing that.

A few people have tried contacting H&R about it, but they've apparently stuck their heads in the sand. Knob jockeys!

Hotchkis and Neuspeed ARBS come with integrated subframe support brackets. They've obviously realised that the subframe is a weak point. Makes you wonder why H&R haven't picked up on it.

Never heard of one cracking there! Looks dangerous being the wishbone locating bolt. I'd get that changed ASAP, wouldn't even consider welding it.

Mine went there and I coughed up and bought a new one from Vagparts!

I've done several like that . I've replaced them with good second hand units .

Didn't realise it was the ARB bracket, looked like the wishbone mount at first glance!

Mine was completely broken on one side - just hangling loose torn right through the rear toe fixing point.
Managed to weld it though; fortunately being the offside was quite easy to get to without taking the sub-frame off.

Then I took it to MRC pretty sharpest to fit the stregthening brackets - they thought my welding was ok.
