Arghhhhh. MISFIRE.....

Post by spanky » Mon May 25, 2009 12:14 pm

OK, looking for some advice.

Had the car a year.

Threw a code a month or so back, EGT 2. Changed it, back to it should be.

Got a code the other day for EGT 1. Changed that. (Code Gone)

Car is now misfiring quite badly under load, not so noticable if you drive it like miss daisy.

Already has a New MAF.

No faults recorded in the ECU.

Seemed to happen overnight, I though it was the EGT 1, but it has made no difference, if anything it has gotten worse!

Ideas?

It was changed about 3 months ago.

Filled up with Optimax today, still no change.

Cleaned out Intercooler pipework, reasonable amount of gunge / oil came out, not too much, refitted pipes, checked for cracks.

Still Misfiring, if anything it is getting worse, as soon as you ask for boost it starts to stutter, then it'll go like F**K, then stutter again, and Go, then stutter.

It's beginning to get REALLY annoying.

Any easy way to check the coils or ICM's?

It's an older ECU so doesn't record any misfire info on Vag-Com.

I thought that too, Maf appears to show the correct increase in airflow in relation to requested boost levels.

Can't hear any unusualy whistling and I have had a pretty good look at most of the pipes, especially those that have been disturbed etc.

Haven't found anything, even looked at the connections to the coolers, cleaned out some oil, but nothing else.

Y-Boot seems ok too.

6 Plugs & 6 Coils fixed it.

hi - think i have same problem (or very similar)- under hard load there is a stutter and then the power surges through. If I go gradual through the revs all fine. Local independent garage ran a check and the fault came up as the exhaust sensor temp probe wasnt working properly and had an issue to the Lambda (?). Change this and the engine runs far better - its the load problem. Kind of a stutter and then it's as if the circuit kicks in and then works fine? help - very annoying!
