Time to move on BUT...not as quickly as I'd hoped....

She who must be obeyed has decreed that it is time to look at a new brum brum.....

I inclined to agree too - looking at something a bit smaller until the price of RS4s comes down a bit!! Call it a sort of interim car ;)

Any hoo, I've got my car for sale on Pistonheads and a few other VAG-orientated websites, and haven't had much joy as yet.

So, time for cruel honesty here - is it too expensive (I've priced it to haggle - I never sold a car before, always p/ex'd, so thought this is what you have to do)

I'm going to retake some pictures in the "sunshine" (if it appears today!!)

I've been totally honest about the car - yeh there's a couple of little things (as to be expected on a 10-yr old car), but I thought I'd priced it accordingly.

What else is wrong with it?

Answers on a postcard!!

Dan :)

Think it's very well priced, but looking on Pistonheads there seems to be a lot of competition at the moment.

If it's a genuinely good example, you just need to hang in there and be patient. Perhaps add the option of a part-ex if you're looking to downsize?

Thanks for that :) - Wifey wants to go down a PCP route hence I'm trying to "start afresh".
perhaps it's just a case of waiting and reducing the price in accordance with the markets each week/month :)

Petrol prices going up isn't helping the sale of fast cars either. :(

True, but that's affecting everybody (plus it's not as expensive as it was last year........yet :D )

I have mine up for sale as well atm, it is slow, had a few people round

in terms of your car:

engine bay looks dirty and the seats need a bit of tlc / gliptone scuffmaster

Nice one - interesting one about the engine bay! :) I was always told don't clean the engine bay as it can hide any problems (there aren't anyway!)

Seats are currently each week going through some Liquid Leather - smells fantastic in the car though :)

Good luck with your sale too - out of interest where are you selling it?

sorry when I meant the engine bay I meant all the plastics and some of the exposured metals and hoses - you can do this by hand, I am not suggesting a steam clean

have a look at the scuff master as well - it sorts out the faded sections of the leather really well if you use a diluted solution of the colourant that matches your seat colour - I have 2 audis with the same interiors and it works a treat

in terms of selling

here
audisrs
pistonheads
e38

will put it on autotrader if nothing after a month on pheads

Sorry to say but if you want to generate some interest then maybe drop the price. Who wants to buy a 10+ year old car with group 20 insurance and 20-25mpg at the moment?
It be easier to drop the price now and get the sale then hang on in there for 6+ months - paying for advertising and playing with all the timewasters.
to be fair for what you will get selling it now, might be worth hanging on to it for next few years and enjoy it.

Thanks Stigter :)

I'd thought about dropping the price BUT, it's already pretty much the cheapest one on Pistonheads & Autotrader. I'd come down a bit but not too much, as I would then be contemplating your last comment :)

Out of interest, what would you drop the price to?

I went to £3400, 1999 model - cruise control, miltek, mtm reps, mapped. only 122k. The chap turned up, went for a quick drive, came back - sold for asking price. All within about 3 days of dropping the price sold. Wouldn't suggest giving it away like me but if you want rid then price seems to be the key.
