Hi guys, been away. Anyway, my tyres are gone & hopefully you can assist. I believe I've got 3 options:

1). Keep my existing 17" alloys and buy the Goodyear F1 Assymmetricals.
2). Buy 18" alloys which come with budget tyres then upgrade the tyres later.
3). Buy 19" alloys which also come with budget tyres then upgrade the tyres later.

I presume the ride will be stiff/uncomfortable with 18"/19" alloys but is this offset by better handling. Also is labour for fitting the upgraded alloys a hardship/expensive. What would you do

well it all depends on how much you want to spend, and what you want from them?

if you intend on getting bigger brakes later on i would recommend getting 18" wheels as most big brake upgrades dont fit under the 17's.

are you sure you cant get the new wheels with a better than budget tyre? a reputable wheel dealer can put better tyres on when you buy them surely?

fitting bigger alloys is easy if you know how to change a wheel over, it just takes time doing all 4!

Basically you just have to make sure you get the right offset and rolling radius for the wheel right for the car and you should be ok.

i am sure someone more knowledgable than me can help out a bit more though!

Don't get budget tyres! I made that mistake when I went to 18's and i've missed out on a lot of fun moments due to crap tyres.

A particularly memorable occasion was when I was unable to 'lose' a Parcelforce van (a big Iveco thingy!) on the twisties up the Wye valley because the road surface was slippery... and I was running around 400bhp!

Look for some bargain 2nd hand wheels with decent tyres if you want to go for 18's. If you're happy with the 17's then stick with them as the tyres will be cheaper, and in a lot of cases will probably be lighter than a cheap set of 18's.

Seems then 18" alloys with decent tyres is the way forward. Was seduced by the allure of the 19" alloys though.
