Heeellllppp!!!! Turbos on their way out?

Just took my dump valves off to swap them for 710n's. One of them had a little oil in it, which seems to have some silvery sheen in it.

Now my worry is that this is a sign my turbo on the passenger side is dead, or dying. Anyone had the same experiance? Should i change immediately?

Can i fit K04's and just keep everything else standard? Or what other hardware do HAVE to have to fit them?

Thanks

Matt

Nah don't think it's a sign that the snails are on the way out.

I would be worried if there wasn't a little bit of oil in the passenger side DV and associated pipes.

It comes from the breather and if it wasn't there you could have a blocked one.

Loads of oil would be a worry but you would be making smoke.

If the oil was clear, then i wouldn't be worried, but if you rub it between two fingers the oil has metal in it. Its not just black oil.

I don't mean shards of metal, just silver powder disolved in the metal.

The oil is not from the Y-hose that connects to the inlet manifold, but from the post - turbo hose that connects into the throttle body boot.

If its not a bad sign, then obviously i'm happy!

There will be a small amount of oil in all the hoses on the passengers side but not wishing to be alarmist or confessing to be an expert, Silver powder would suggest to me the lining of some bearing or other.

Having said that my Golf Rallye always had some Silvery powder in the oil residue in the boost pipes and never let me down in 8 years/132,000 miles and as far as I know is still going ok.

Are you getting any oil out the back or high pitched noises from the turbos?

Not noticed any blue smoke or whining noise. All still sounds good to me.

Do you mean actual oil in the exhaust?

Main engine oil is still clear, so i don't suspect the cams...

you can get silver paint flakes off the charge pipes or the y pipe around there. If yuou are worried about metal in the oil then change hte oil, and cut the old filter open and inspect that.
