Fun with electrics!

Post by pj_sibley » Sun Dec 21, 2008 9:13 pm

My central locking pump failed recently. I pulled it out of the boot and opened up the unit on Friday, only to pour the shattered graphite impeller parts out onto a piece of paper!! I'll be getting that sorted shortly then!

However, a couple of side effects have manifested themselves as a result of disconnecting the central locking pump. Any ideas?

- Electric windows: no longer working (no fuse, circuit breaker?)
- Sunroof: no longer working (fuse?)
- Interior lights on open / close doors: no longer working (fuse?)

Added to the fact that one of my lambda sensors is not returning a signal, resulting in some rich running on cylinder bank 1 and a lumpy idle, it looks like it's going to be a fairly interesting start to the new year getting this lot fixed!! :)

This all works through the CL pump.

That'll be the reason why then! I assume that when I've replaced the graphite internals of the CLP and plug it all back in, that I'll have full use of my electrics once again? Will there be any fault codes generated as a result of this?

just stick a different pump in from another pump, all vag ones have similar pumps which can be made to fit.can pick up an old one for peanuts

Thanks for the advice. Will either pick up another pump from a breakers yard or just source the graphite internals separately. Electric windows etc. now working again since plugging the pump back in!

Best news of the day is that I've booked in to have an FMIC fitted at MRC in Jan, along with a few routine servicing bits :)

best to recon yours i have had problems in the past as there are so many different part numbers some even have the immobiliser built in. just to be sure and so you dont run into problems fix the original. last new one i bought was £350 from the stealers

Yep, £350 is about what I got quoted through VAG Parts for a new unit. Re-coding of the alarm fob is then required on top of that.

I appreciate that there are quite a few different part numbers out there for CLPs. I've managed to source just the graphite parts for the particular CLP unit I've got for about £50. Hopefully that'll do the trick!!
