Poll: MRC 500 S4 or remapped/Milltek/FMIC B5 RS4?

Just wondering, for a car that will spend 90+% of the time on wide straight highways, which will you choose?
Do they both cost about the same or would the RS4 still be the dearer option?
What about running costs and reliability?
Much thanks from a novice.

Will the RS4 with these minor mods produce the same power and torque as the S4 MRC500?
I believe that zerok66 has come across one or two 'stage 2/3' RS4's and had no problems pulling away from them in his S4.....

Thanks, think what I'll do is patiently wait in these forums until an S4 that has already been sprinkled with MRC-dust to come up for sale.
That 480hp red one looked to be a positively awesome bargain at 8k - didn't need to be advertised for long before it went.

It depends, I would rather have a Wide bodys S4 over an RS4 anyday, plus I think the saloon is lighter, I much prefer the look of the saloon to an avant also.
Although there are other things to consider, the RS4 will have better suspension, brakes and so on as standard, and an RS4 badge.

But I wonder whether it would it be cheaper to fit an S4 with better suspension, brakes and so on anyway? (No need for a badge though

)
p/s Your S4 spec looks very interesting. Do let us know when you're bored of it and would like it to go (or donate) to a good home

I paid more than £10K for my high spec S4 in 2006.
I've spent more than that again at MRC alone over last two years - and that's "only" MRC400 spec plus a bunch of other stuff - remedial and improvements - brakes, suspension, services etc. I've spent other stuff elsewhere on top.
Conclusion : an RS4 is cheaper. And I've had another S4 and a RS4 in the past too so I know them both...

But *your* current S4 will be cheaper (and maybe better) than an RS4 - for someone looking to buy
now
Or am I just dreaming

A heavily modded S4 will still be significantly cheaper than a lightly tinkered RS4 with the same mileage.
The S4 will have more torque lower down, but lose out in terms of top end BHP. You'd also imagine that an S4 which is running 400+bhp will have had it's brakes and suspension uprated to at least the same level of a stock RS4, if not better. But the RS4 has a wider track and wider wheels, so handling could still be better than an S even if on paper you'd expect the S to win.
Given my time again(and if I had all the money I've spent on mine in a big single pile), I would defo get an RS4. They look better, the interiors are higher spec than most S4's, the residuals are better, they are rarer, you'll be able to push the state of tune further if you decided to do so at a later date, etc.
There are a number of owners here who have moved up from a modded S to an RS. How many people are there that have moved the other way???

Oh yes - despite a total likely £28K spend over the last two years (car included) I wouldn't even get close to half that at sale. But after nearly ten years addicted to the car modification game, I know that well! You pick your hobby and live with the costs.
And as it happens I might just well be parting with it. If I do, I will post it here of course. Why? I have a decent daily commute and I can't keep spending £5k a year just on petrol! So perhaps something small, light and somewhat more frugal (normally aspirated?) here I come. My only hesitancy is that I'd miss it. We'll see.

Hmm, definitely will watch this space. Can't wait for the big gun S4s to come on the market
