Oil leak / breather help.

Post by Mikey-S » Sun Aug 10, 2008 12:12 pm

Guys, I've got my engine in bits at the moment chasing oil leaks. My crank front oil seal, and my r/h variable valve timing actuator are both leaking oil so while it's in pieces I'm changing all cam seals, both VVT gaskets & half moon seals plus the crank seal.

Here's the question: could I be suffering from a blocked crankcase breather system resulting in oil blowing by the seals, or is this generally a reliable system?

Also, can anyone give me the torque for the front crank sprocket bolt, cos I can't find it in ELSA.

Thanks in advance..

Mike

Mike, have you replaced the one way valves? Mine were shot a while back and we were worried that the crankcase was getting pressurised at high boost.

Scott, I've just got it back together but haven't changed any valves. I was going to give the breather system a good check before I give the car any abuse. Can you give me an idea of where they are located and what they look like?

Did you suffer with oil leaks?

It's the green ones (three of them I think) underneath the Y-pipe. Think one of them is on the F-hose, the others are connected in some way to the spider hose.

I had to get my cam cover gaskets replaced as they were leaking. Weren't sure if this was caused by excessive pressure in the crankcase, but obviously needed doing. One thing we did notice was that when pressure testing it, there was a lot of pressure coming out of the PCV breather.

here you go mike

there are 2 green ones 078 905 291B and the grey one on top of the Fhose 035 103 245A, don't be fooled by the grey one, I have tested 3 of these, new and old, and you CAN get a little bit of air through them, I though I had a faulty 035 103 245A so I purchased a new one and tested it before I fitted it, you can blow through it just a tiny bit, and that is normal........ the green ones you cant. also Injector O rings can leak.
