Clunky steering

Good morning chaps
I have a cluncking on my steering, low speed turns either way on the lock and around the middle of the travel not on the end stops. It sounds like it is actually in the dash board behind the stereo.
Any common faults that anyone is aware of?
Cheers in advance
Chris

Steering rack sounds kaput.
Big job changing it...

Get it checked out by someone who knows what there doing.
It's a pig of a job (so i've read). Might be worth getting Simon (S4Woody) to have a look as he's not too far from you

Before you go replacing the steering rack there are 3 bolts holding it in place that can (not often), but can come loose. It is a 10mm 12point socket you will need. The one on the driver side is easily accessible and just behind the firewall. The passenger side will require that you remove the battery. It is directly beneath. The third one is accessible from underneath the car. You will need a long extension.

I'll give them a tweak first then, got to be worth a try!! Really don't feel like replacing the steering rack, only use the car at weekends and tbh what to get this fixed then think about selling it!!!!!!!!
