Picking Up My S4 Avant Tomorrow

Post by HibS4 » Wed Jul 16, 2008 11:47 pm

Evening All

I have been lurking on here for awhile, and now that I am a fully fledged S4 owner I thought I would say hello.

Car is 2000 Avant in 'Hibiscus' Red, 63k miles with FASH. Still smiling from the test drive, can't imagine what I will be like on the 70 mile trip back with it.

Hoping you knowledgeable chaps can point me in the right direction....

One of the first things I plan to do is get it to MRC and have them check it out, following other posts on here.

It needs at least two new tyres ASAP, think it has Goodyear Eagles on at the moment. What would you suggest as replacements?
Also needs new pads according to the DIS, ssuming thats the case what would you reccommend using. If the disks are ok then it will just be the pads for the time being, want good performance with reasonable longevity.

Is there any others mods that you guys have done as a matter of course?

Cheers

Glen

Do a pressure check to confirm no boost leaks.
Check the DVs to ensure they hold a vaccuum.
Run VAGcom to check for any errors...if you havent done so already.

Eagle F1s are good, the new asymmetrics are supposedly even better.

Enjoy the car!

Commonly known as an MRC healthcheck - well worth having them look at it.

Worth buying a copy of VAG com so you can run your own diagnostic tests.

Diverter valves are simple to change and not too expensive. Get a pair of TT valves from VAG parts.

The "F hose" is a common failure point and a pain to change.

MRC will check for faults with these so if you're going to see them soon no need to worry now.

Happy motoring.

Good choice, my Avant has just got us to Brittany and back including a big detour due to our digs being crap carrying a shitload of booze plus all our other luggage without missing a beat.

Needs new front pads now too.

WOW WOW WOW

Thanks for all your input, so gutted that ended up picking it up late so no chance to start fiddling now. Guess who isn't going to sleep much tonight!

Well worth the dosh!

PS Get it done ASAP (eg TOMORROW) so it doesn't run into 1000's when it goes wrong.

Sorted...

Four new Eagle F1s on this morning and tracking sorted, booked in to have new discs and pads on Monday. Then the exciting bit, booked into MRC on Thursday for Healthcheck, oh yeah and a remap ;)
Hardest thing at the moment is still having my company car for the next three weeks, which has a fuel card (diesel) so my wife insists that we should be making the most of that so the S4 will be on the drive most of the time :x

Ouch...

While having the front discs and all pads done today they uncovered that one of the rear calipers has seized solid and both rear coilovers (I think) have broken. Ho hum, just hope the health check at MRC on Thursday doesn't show up too much.

Rear springs aren't too expensive, just had mine done and they were about 55 quid each, caliper shouldn't be too much either - good job it wasn't a front one.

Hmmmm, Interesting. By the time they realise that I had switched to running my company car on petrol when it's a diesel I will be long gone. Very Interesting :D

Estimate for supply and fit for genuine front discs, pads all round, a caliper and the rear springs is £980! Must admit I trust the guy to not rip me off, however what are your thoughts on it?

Cheers
