My S4 , Feb 1999 has the solid rear discs.
I am looking at changing these for the lateer model ventilated discs, obviousley with the calipers , backplates etc.
Has anyone carried out this conversion ?

The front brakes do most of the work, so I suggest you think twice before uprating the rears.

Yep, I'm with Dippy, you'd be doing very well to get them hot enought to fade.
I think Joshie put EBC greenstuff pads in his though ? so that may be a cost effective upgrade if you feel the need.

Yeah - I did too.
However that was the same time as I put the Porsche brakes on the front so I've no idea if they were any better.

Dippy/David,
I understand your comments, however the upgrade I am looking at will only change the car to std MY2000 braking system.
I am worried that changing to the greenstuff pads on solid discs will only cause a probelm with too much heat, do you have vented rears ?

Pretty sure my rear brakes are not ventilated and I have been using greenstuff pads for well over a year. Never had a problem with overheating.
Hope this helps.

Yes, but how would you have known - since you have 911 brakes up front, they might have masked any loss of braking from the rears?

But my point was that you'd be better off spending the money on upgrading the front brakes.

Not sure what you mean - before the front brake upgrade to the Porsche setup, the greenstuff pads were installed in the rear calipers and after a hard run it was the front standard S4 brakes which were smoking, not the rears.

Didn't know you had them before the 911s.
However the fronts were smoking because they were doing most of the work. Just because the rears weren't smoking, doesn't mean they weren't very hot (but not smoking) and therefore losing braking performance.
Anyway, that's enough from me as I don't really know what I'm talking about

Think I can see the tree you're barking up mate.
I would invest in the Porsche rears if I had a spare couple of grand .............. but I haven't

I already have the 911 fronts
My aim was to continue the improvement of the braking system for track use.
