Hi all,

Can anyone point me toward a "how to" for replacing the MAF? Ran VAG-COM last night and says "MAF - signal too low". Reckon it is dead.

Yes you purchase a new unit..... only get it from the main dealer as it will have a 2 year warranty on it. Ask for an exchange unit, give them the old one.

its really easy to do. Just undo the jubilee clips from either side, disconnect the wire and install the new one. If you dont know where it is its the unit between the airbox and the accordian hose.

In fairness, it is so simple, if you can't identify it - dare I say...you shouldn't be doing it?

I found Audi really good and when i went in, they offered a mechanic to pop out and do it for me.

Not sure about that, I've restored classic cars before, just haven't got the hang of anything that has turbo chargers or electronics! The most complex wiring I deal with is voltage regulators for dynamos...

Not familiar with the S4 really, so when VAG-COM says MAF is shot, I might need a little pointer as to where to start.

Maybe you should erase the fault first before buying a new MAF. If in the past the MAF has been disconnected, maybe for some fault diagnosis, then that would leave a similar fault code in the ECU. Erase the fault, run it for a bit and if it comes back then buy one...

the maf is under the left hand side engine cover, hope that helps a bit.

b14 - sorry if I was taken wrong. I wasn't having a go. Really what I was trying to infer is that if you don't know what you were doing, perhaps best left to someone that does.....but I was assuming you did not know one end of a spanner from another....sorry.

In all honesty though, with your experience, it is dead easy.

It really isn't that difficult as mentioned earlier.

1. Take the cover off as shown in the earlier post. Just pull it off upwards. Only clips.

2. Where the large air intake is from the air box, you'll see a round tube with a connector on it (Under where the cover was of course).
This is the MAF sensor.

3. Disconnect plug. You may need to use a screwdriver to push tab in.

4. Remove the maf sensor

5. Buy maf sensor if you get an exchange unit and give them your old one you can save yourself £20 i think

6. Install and reset codes on Vagcom
