just about to buy some new tyres to put on my 18" S-Line 9-spoke alloys. previous size was 235/40 which I ran on my old S2, then the wife's A6. It was also the correct size for the A4 (B7) S-Line.

looking at rolling circumference, the 225/40 x 18 is closer to the 225/45 x 17.

also the 225's are a lot cheaper than 235's. and i fancy Conti Sport Contact 3's and can't seem to find them in 235's

what should i go for ? any ideas?

are they the ones from pistonheads?

I run 235 40 and the speedo is spot on (gps checked), there is slight rubbing at the front but I rolled my arches and it is all good now.

I would stick with 235s, on 8.5 inch wheels they sit square for max grip and minimum sidewall squish and give rim protection too.

Nige - i've had the wheels for 3 years, and been running on the original tyres up until now. 235 seems to be the correct size for B7 S-Line models. but not keen on them catching the bodywork....

how do you roll the arches? is this where you heat the metal up and literally bend the wheel arch out to make it more like an RS4? or do you just mean the inner arch lining?

I have seen people crack the paint in the fronts to.

okay chaps - quick update

i went for the conti sport contact 3's in 225/40zr 18's - got them for 120 each all-in

the wheels are 8" x 18" 9-spoke (ET45 i think - need to check) - OE audi A4 (B6 & B7) S-Line

the front brake calipers needed a little material removal to clear the inside profile of the spokes - std calipers with a steel outer bridge.

quite pleased with the results - will put some pics up soon

see I run 235 40 18's n yes on occasion they rub... but a good set will be worth £90 per tyre..... Avon ZZ3
