H&R suspension setup

Post by fletchie55 » Thu Jun 26, 2008 9:32 pm

Hi
Iv got a new set of H&R coilovers waiting to be fitted to my B5 facelift Avant, but I have a few questions first!

What is the minimum I can lower the car by on this kit?
What should I get the ARBs set to? (I have H&R thick rear bar currently set to stiffest)
Will the arches clear my wheels if I lower it? currently have sportec 8.5x18" et35 with 235 40 eagle F1 tyres
How long does it take to fit the suspension, and will I need tracking and alignment done afterwards? I dont have many tools so I think il have to use a garage, and it would be good to know what its likely to cost & how long the job is likely to take!

I dont want the car to scrape along if I have a full car ie 5 people and some luggage, can this be avoided?

Thanks in advance!

There are a lot of questions there! I beleive the minimum lowering amount is 30mm,arb's is a matter of taste, wheels should be ok (but tyres might catch) Around 2hrs to fit if you've doen it before or have an idea,i havnt had the tracking done on my car,my car is set around 50mm lower and i had 7 people in it at le-mans and it didnt scrape once so on 18's it should be ok to run quite low!

it really is a good idea to have the whole suspension setup after. 99% of places cant do this correctly.. it is not there fault, its just you have to know these cars to pull the subframe about and things, and you need puka 4 wheel alignment equipment.

drive it out of there when they have done it, and then set the ride height to what most people say for the s4 ( do a search you will find it) yourself with that nice big spanner you have with the kit.

Then take it somewhere like I said above.

thanks guys, I have a pro-tyre garage close to me that have a 4 wheel lazer alignment facility so I think I might give them a go if they will do the alignment afterwards included in the price. Fingers crossed the tyres wont rub or il have to change them. Does anyone know if I can get 225s on 8.5j rims or would it be too much of a stretch? On the Sportec site they recommend 225 40s for the S4 on 8.5j wheels.

Yes you can get 225 on this rim... some might say 235, but I have seen a few on 8.5..... I don't know pro tyre, and do they know about pulling the subframe about to get the geometry right?

the tyre to go for is..................................................................... Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric, do not settle for anything less. for there price nothing comes close, you can get them for about 99 ish.... not worth paying 20 less for junk... why bother with the new suspension! sorry the wine is kicking in.

I didnt know the whole subframe needs moving about to get it right! I thought if the lazer alignment machine says its ok then thats all there is to it (provided they have put the right model details into the machine!)

Can anyone recommend a decent place to get suspension fitted in the south west?
Agree with the Eagle F1 comment ;-)
