Looking to get vagcom for weekly checking/fault finding on my car etc Can someone give me advice with what sort of laptop I can run this on. The only computers I use are mac based so I am a numpty when it comes to pc's. Want to buy a cheap second hand one if possible rather than new as this is all it would be used for!

Cheers

On the basis that I wasn't planning on using the laptop for much else I bought the cheapest one they had in Comet.

Has Windows Vista on it which vagcom runs fine with.

Just make sure you get one with at least 1gb of RAM, mine only had 512k and to make it run at an acceptable speed I had to install another 512k.

they sell second hand laptops for around £120 - nothing special but it will run vagcom fine i would have thought.

Anything will do it near enough, second hand WITHOUT Vista is the best bet as Vista is a hog for system resources - probably why Yorkie needed another 512Mb of ram to get on with it.

Bigpockets - http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/product.php ... ct=SOLV020
Or ebay they can be had on buy it now for under a hundred easily enough for a 1Ghz machine.

Can you not buy a PC emulator for a Mac?

To be fair since Service Pack 1 I have found Visa to be less of a memory hog.

I don't think Ross-Tech support pc emulation.

I've had vag-com working under VMware Fusion on the mac - with the very cable you kindly gave me! But I've since moved to running it on an Asus Eee PC - very tiny laptop with a flash based disc. Great battery life, almost indestructible and *small*.

I showed it to Doug when I was down there and he seemed quite taken with the idea.
