Lumbar Fubar - HELP!!!

Post by Chameleon » Mon Jun 23, 2008 7:30 pm

Hello All,

My Lumbar support in the drivers seat recently went ping when I pushed back into the seat too hard. As These seats are not electric I thought it shouldn't be too hard to repair, so I took the back cover off the seat and it turns out the cable has snapped. Today I went to the stealers for a cable but they do not have them listed and have no idea where to get one.

The cable is about 18" long with an 11" black casing on it and each end of the cable has a bullet shaped nipple.

Does anybody out there have any idea where I might get one of these cables? Alternatively does anybody have a broken / old seat with a cable that could be salvaged?

Cheers

Any decent cycle shop should be able to make one up for you I would have thought.

Tried a couple of cycle shops but they claim they can't put the nipples on the ends of the cable now. They are apparently machined on and not soldered anymore.

Anybody know of a decent cycle shop around the West Midlands?

Has the cable snapped near one of the nipples? as if not then could you not just join or extend it using a 5amp electrical choc block connector

If its snapped right at the nipple could you not just fit a new nipple and stretch it a tiny bit?

The wire has all frayed and the nipple is a type I've not seen before. I might have to try and attach a different nipple if I can't find a replacement cable

you can still buy brake cable, assorted nipples and outer cable and make your own, if your local cycle shop is telling they come preformed go to a small independent motorcycle shop, they will help you.

Otherwise, how on earth are cables made for vintage motorcycles.

I have one near me and have no problem getting these bits for my vintage ducatis.

Trig,

I have managed to knock something together for te Lumbar cable. I've attached a small pinion drive for an electric motor to the cable and it seems to be working. I will see how long thi holds out for. If it doesn't last I may still need yo to make me a cable.

Cheers, Phil
