Just had a health check on my car at MRC, everything was good except a leak from the throttle body pipe... Oh and the AMD map which was all over the place.

Going back to MRC on the 4th for a re-map.

Must say the guys at MRC really know what there talking about, Big thumbs up to them.

Yep that's AMD. Bit more extreme than mine was.

Thats a bit worrying about the map. I've got one - are these likely to have been a generic remap and therefore they're all duff?
Mine feels ok but it does seem as though power falls away a bit when getting toward 6k.....
Seems to pull like a train low down though and world of difference to my old 328 (230ishbhp)

Well I thought it was fast, my previous cars are Rover coupe turbo (248bhp), Mini cooper and 120i msport, plus been in many M3/5s and so on.

Mine pulls hard low down, but at about 4k theres a small hesitation and onwards the power falls away also.

Get a health check done and see what they say?

travs, I have read enough to know that MRC has a different approach to remapping than AmD did (still does?). Based on what I have read here, it appears that MRC do better maps. But that does not mean that AmD maps are bad. The main guy (Geoff) who did all the original remap development at AmD certainly knew his stuff. He custom mapped my car so that I don't get the sort of power tail-off that you describe. However maybe your map is an 'off-the-shelf' one? I had my map done in 2002 and was lucky to get some 'personal' attention then. After that I'm fairly sure AmD just did generic remaps.

Due to the cost of petrol and my moneypit (house), I am doing no further development in my car until the turbos die. However if that were not the case I would have got myself an MRC remap by now. Again, not because the AmD map is bad, but just that I believe MRC can do a better job.

I've got an AMD map. I got mine done in 2004/05. I've never had any problems and it pulls strong to limiter. I'm very happy with it.

However, knowing what i know now, i would agree with Dippy that MRC can/could do a better job. When it's turbo time for me aswell then it will be MRC that it goes to.

Isn't AMD just a name that a different company is trading as now.

Yes I believe so - more reason for those of us with AMD mods to go elsewhere in the future.

Bought over by Mega4/Big Boys Toys - just means a few more miles up the M40 for me now.

A lot of former customers seem to be heading in the direction of APS though.

Cheers for the advice Dippy - I can't say I'e evey been worried about it necessarily, just a thought on what had been said.
I too don't really have the expendable cash at the moment for this sort of thing when its not essentially problematic. Just keeping the thing running and healthy is good enough for me till a more suitable financial situation.
I'm aware that AMD had a great rep, but i'm led to understand that, prior to the ownership change, they had pretty much ruined their reputation for anything other than an exhaust and remap based on the fact that they had limited workforce by that time. In fact, I'd heard Mega4/BBT had bought the assets and the rights to the name but not the company as a going concern because it technically wasn't....
