Morning, My ABS ligh keeps coming on randomly and for a very short while. It comes on and there is 3 loud bleeps and the big red exclemation mark on the dis but by the time the third bleep has finnished and the ! has stopped flashing the ABS light has gone out and all seems well again!!! I checked Vag com and it shows no error codes!
Any ideas??

P.S. I still can't get the search function to work so sorry if this is a repeat!

ABS ECU is on it's way out. I had this recently. I'll dig out the thread.

Have a look in the 'How To' sticky at the top of the forum under - REPAIRING ABS MODULE.

Think it cost me round about £130 from BBA-Reman and they had my unit fixed and sent back to me within about 3 days.

You can drive the car without the ABS ECU in place, but your rear brakes could apparently lock up very easily, so if you have to do so, be careful!

Yup, same diagnosis here. Same thing as mine did before it went altogether.
Easy job, front passenger wheel off, remove arch liner, rotate washer reservoir out the way so you can get to the abs "ECU" screws (torx heads IIRC),undo the plugs and bung it in the post to BBA Reman

Cheers guys,
I have looked at the ABS Repair how too, looks straight forward enough, has anyone off here tried it. I wonder if that is all BBA Reman did to your ones?? If so £130 seems a bit steep, or was that for a new unit?
Might pull that out tonight then.

Yep... I had a go... then saw how fooking small the wiring was!
Here's a photo showing my (non-sausage) fingers to give an idea of scale. What you can't see from the photo is loads of tiny virtually invisible connections.

When I saw what I was up against, I was more than happy for BBA-Reman to work their delicate magic. Money well spent I think!

Woah, bend over Audi is coming in again!!!!
Yep from the scale there blue I think I will let them have a go!!!
The fella who did the how to must have had a very good macro function on his camera!!
Cheers

Try this place in Derbyshire;
Quick turnaround service and approx £200 I think.

They did Ash318's ABS ECU on his old S4.

C9CRM, AFAIK an ABS ecu fault wont cause beeping, and the fact there are no faults logged is unusual.
Have you checked the manual to confirm what this fault means as it sounds more like brake fluid level to me.
Have you checked to see if the ABS still works?
Also make sure you scan the ABS module AND the Engine AND the cluster.
Cluster faults aren't unusual either and wont log a fault.

The ABS ECU fault does give off three beeps, accompanied by a red (!) in the DIS and sometimes (not always) the ABS light. It doesn't store any fault codes either.

I had these symptoms with increasing frequency (started off as only happening when car was restarted when warm, then started to happen after 15-20 mins of driving, then got to the stage where it was happening multiple times on a short journey), got the ABS ECU repaired, and now haven't had them since then.

I had this fault Red (!) & 3 beeps, but only when starting the car. Audi replaced a starter relay and it hasn't come back FWIW. They said it was just the controller hadn't finished initialising prior to starting the car, no faults were ever logged.

I pulled the module out last night and am going to drop it off at BBA Reman tomorrow. Its £100 if you drop off and collect which I would rather do than trust Royal Mail with it!!!! Cheers for your help. Chris

My car needed a new ABS module when i bought it, priced at about 800 quid from Audi so got that knocked off. Bought the new one from Doug at Mrc for a lot less :)

ive had the same problem only with no intemittance, warning lights constantly on and of course no abs...
i followed the how to up until ripping the unit open.
bought a pump/controller off a guy on here, then swapped the electrical modules of the units and reset ecu (not sure if neccesary but did incase)
no guarantees that the same doesnt happen to this one, but it does mean i have my old one i can solder up and keep spare.
