Hybrid K04/K24 instead of K04/k16

Hi guys,

what do you think about this combination of hybrid : K04/K24 ?

I heard it can produce up to 300hp per turbo, so around 600hp in total, has anyone tried those hybrids ?

In order to get the best performance, with bigger turbos you need to : replace the exhaust (catback, decat, downpipes) with bigger ones, injection, fuel pump, MAF (an RS4 MAF?), intercoolers... clutch, throttle body (can someone explain me why should the throttle body be changed ?)... then a remap and it's finished, does that give you more than 500hp ?

Thanks in advance to reply to all the questions

Ask Dummi or Quattronutter who's now selling a set of these - http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... hlight=k24

for that power go for straight rs6 turbos, after seeing a k16 up close putting that wheel in a ko4 will sufficate the hotside

musty1 is right the compressor wheel is far to big for a little k04 hot side you'd never get flow and efficiency high enough to make those numbers.

Hi, I'd like to call MRC but I am not in UK. I have already found a hybrid pair of k04/k24 for a very reasonable price.

And I know for a guy who used hybrid k04/k24 on an S4 and got 550-600hp...he performed the 1/4 mile in 11,1seconds. I don't think he had problems with the compressor being too big.
As far as I know the hybrid I saw is a k04.k16 with k24 compressor...

But let's admit the k04.k24 is OK, with all the others specs I mentioned (exhaust, injectors, fuel pump, RS4 MAF, intercoolers, remap) the car should produce far more than 500hp, correct ?

An other question, what do you think about the added value to the car with a nice setup of 500-600hp (that is durable and reliable) (is the car worth more than normal S4 or stage 1 when you plan to sell it) ?
At this point of tuning, do you recommend changing the pistons, head gasket, thermal intake spacers for maximum reliability ?

Cheers!

C24: talk to the people who will tune the car for your. If you're in Switzerland, it'll probably be Sportec, and I'd be really curious to see if they'll ever want to hear about that sort of turbo if you bring the car in for tuning. I personally wouldn't want to touch it, people who think they can flow 300 HP out of an RS4 K04 hot side housing are keyboard tuners or dreamers.

Added value? About 1EURO!

Modifying cars is no investment. Buy some shares!

S2tuner, you have probably seen that I have a sportec remap, so you might think that I tried to contact them and ask them what kind of high performance mod they can do, and the answer was negative, they like to do Stage 1 chipping level because this is the most rentable mod they can do as it costs 3'500 CHF.
I am not a dreamer, I don't like to waste money :
If I'm interested with the k04.24 turbo it's because I can get them for 350£ each.
Let's say I install these turbos, what kind of power can I expect if I put the other stuff (Exhaust, fueling system etc...) ?
What would you suggest me to do ?

you don't really need to upgrade the exhaust beyond a point if your not upgrading the k04 housing. rs6/k24 would be more to the point...

You'll be lucky if you see more than 450 HP with those turbos on your car. Just think for a little bit, why would they be so cheap when stock K04s, new, cost around £800 each??? just because they're used? They're probably some shabby rebuild done by god knows who, and the same goes for the "upgrade" to the K24 wheel, which is an ancient design... even if the cold side could theoretically flow 600HP, the hot sides will hardly get you over 450 without mods and an FMIC. IMHO not a good mod.

When you say : 'the hot sides will hardly get you over 450 without mods and an FMIC", are you talking about mods on the turbine ?
I can get new K04 for 700€, those k04.24 are used, rebuild and cost 500€... is the K04 a better choice ? The seller also has some Garrett turbos, what do you think about them ?

What should I do in order to get from 500 to 600hp (or 580) ?

If you want anything over 550 reliable PS on your car, get an RS4 block to start with, it'll be less expensive.

Or purchase a set of decent rods, there was a Euro spec set for sale on here a while back, at a nice price. you will be safe over 550ps all day long with the standard block. as the person said above, just go for for straight RS6 turbos.
