Noggy Y-Pipe

Post by rosshyslop » Wed May 14, 2008 9:00 pm

Just thought i would post up some pics of my little spraying the Y pipe project from the other day. Really chuffed with the results! Makes looking under the bonnet a more pleasant experience :D Thought about a few other colours but decided nogaro was the best as it also matches up with the silicon hoses.

That's well smart. So what paint and preparation was involved and how many coats please?

Cheers! Started off by giving it a good clean with whatever detergents i could get my hands on. Rubbed it down smooth with some P600 wet and dry to get rid of some of the original flakey silver paint. Then applied several coats of light gry primer, letting each coat dry and then giving it a light rub with the wet and dry again. Repeated this with the Nogaro Spray paint (From Halfrauds), always flatting it after coats! Then just did a few coats of clear to seal it all in. I'm surprised by how good the finish is considering it was all done outside and with spray cans. Took me about 7 hours in total. Would have left it longer for each coat to dry but needed the car for work the next day.

Some other pics. Forgot to say that i removed all the metal screw attachments and the rubber parts from the Y pipe first before painting.
