Can anyone tell me how to get the pad retaining spring out of the Porsche 993tt calipers ?
If your brakes are genuine Porsche 993 TT calipers then there is a spring clip which holds the pads in place. It is a long spring with a bow in the middle and is hinged at the bottom of the caliper and hooked at the top.
To remove, you need to compress the bow in the middle, which shortens the spring and allows it to be unhooked from the top of the calliper.
To remove the pads push laterally to and fro on the disk, which moves the pistons back a little way and frees the pressure on the pads. Use pliers to pull the pads free.
To make it easier to refit the pads use a lever to push the pistons back. Remember that there are two pistons for each pad and therefore the pistons need to be pushed back in unison. Don’t forget to make sure that the slack is taken up on the brake pedal before taking to the road.
There are a number of different designs made by Brembo and therefore your calipers may be different. and so perhaps johneroberts or andiroo will be able to advise you further.
