Whipped by a Honda Type R

Post by Kaapse_Laaitie » Thu Jan 10, 2008 4:00 pm

I just got whipped by a Honda Type R on A217. My car is stock. I kept him at bay is 1st and 2nd gear. I ran out of steam in 3rd as he came up next to me than leave me for dead as I change to 4th. Are the Type R's normally that quick? My car hasn't gone for a health ckeckin 2 years, so I don't know if its running like it should - its feels fine to me.

mmmmm you should have taken a standard one, if its the 2001-2005 ,they are arond 200bhp and rolling you should have sorted it.

the guys on here will tell you to check it a lot more than 2 years! im going through the boost checking now.

An S4 should absolutely whip a Accord R into submission, throughout the range.
They lack torque and power on you by quite a margain. I used to own an Integra Type R before I got the S4 and those are quicker than the Accord and it would stand no chance in a straight line. On the corners it would murder the S4 though as its handling is way above anything you will find FWD that I have driven. The S4 is a complete lardass by comparison.

Given equal driver skill you should have had him beat easily IMO. How far at bay where you keeping him?
Book stats put you near enough 5 seconds ahead up to 100 which should see you to 4th gear.

Your car needs looking at or he was running something non-standard ;)

A honda civic type R are 197bhp but much lighter and only front wheel drive. would say that it would be a good race. Was the civic standard. easy to get 300bhp from them...

I wouldnt. The ITR and EP3 CTR are basically on a par through the gears with the ITR edging away round bends thanks to being equipped with an LSD and near perfect balance.

I am not sure when it got "easy" to add 50% more power to a NA based vehicle, this is a new one on me after being a ITR owner for 5 years. All routes to larger than 20 or so BHP involved thousands of pounds spending on turbo or super chargers (Vortec or Jackson).

Even gaining a few ponies involved some very select choice of parts or you would just get some more noise and decrease in performance. When I look back and consider that a decent exhaust was over £400 or a Mugen airbox was similar prices for mere single figure gains, compared to £400 and an hour or two at MRC for a remap and you walk away with 50+ bhp...

Oh, and apologies on my first post, I read it as being a Accord Type R. Which one was it?
Civic (EK9 - Old shape - very rare to see much of, EP3 - Breadvan Shaped, FD - latest space age looking one)
Integra (DC2 - usually white, big rear spoiler. DC5 - newer shaped from about 2001 plate IIRC. Theres also a brand new one which is four doors)
Accord Type R (only one model, about BMW 5 series size with large rear spoiler)
NSX Type R - the only one which will obliterate you. Rare to see and you would know about it LOL

On a roll they are pretty quick actually, especially if driven well. When I just had a chip, I struggled to put much onto
one to be honest.

i raced my m8 2007 civic type r , rolling from 30mph and it was not even close , i could take off in third with him in second and still blow it to the weeds. i was shocked there was so much in it, i thought it would have been close to 80 or 90. my car has a remap though

They are a lot more reponsive on the throttle if the driver is sitting at the start of the vtec zone (even more so if
they had this limit dropped). They are also 2wd and lighter. If you both punch it about the same time (from a roll)
it will closer than you might think. Same with those modded MG ZS's. Except looks and trim wise they are a complete
<beep> heap.

My old S4 used to smash all of the type R range, and that was only running 350bhp!! When it was standard I raced three type R civics and when I got to 60 I would of being pulling away at 100 they would be well behind. I also took on a NSX in Germany and was right on him till i passed him at 165mph. Only cars i really struggled against are those bloody good EVO 8's, but then they have been put together with tape and string!!!

It was a black civic. We lauched from standing at the traffic lights. In 1st and 2nd I was about 2 car lengths ahead. In 4th and coming up to the roundabout at brighton rd the honda was about a car and a half ahead of me  . My car is bog standard apart from the ebc brakes. bmc filter and rs4 replica wheels. I got to change my wheels - replicas weight a ton each. Any one giving away 18" s4 wheels.
I might have a MAF problem. I have't had the time lately to take a drive to MRC. S4woody, I'll definitely give you a call. I'm in Sutton too.
