Cheaper brake upgrade?
Cheaper brake upgrade?
Hi guys
I have a MRC tuned S4 with about 320bhp. The standard brakes are fine for the moment but one day i will be moving up to KO4's.
I would like to replace the front calipers with something a little better but are there really no options this side of £1000??
From the many pages i have read it seems like 2nd hand porcshe calipers would fit the bill but how easy is it to find/make the appropriate carrier to mate them to the S4 hub?
If anyone has any ideas for brake upgrades that dont cost a fortune i would love to hear them.

RE: Cheaper brake upgrade?
my cayenne calipers bolt on with no bracket needed my biggest prob was finding a suitable disc interms of size and offset. ECS wont sell the centre bells separately on the stage 4 kit so i milled B5 RS4's down and had to shave a little off the back of the caliper mounting arms ( they're thick enough to do this safely imo) next pads and custom lines from goodridge. Cost £850-900 doing 90% work myself with mate doing the milling for crate of beer.
KO4's Full Bilstein suspension, MRC custom remap Dual milltek, de pre-catted & custom Decats Forge DV's H&R ARB's, 18" RS4 Reps

RE: Cheaper brake upgrade?
It all comes down to if you are sticking with the 17's or going up to 18 inch wheels

RE: Cheaper brake upgrade?
Is there any difference with the cayenne calipers (ie turbo s etc..)?

ive got 18" RS4 B7 reps, i suppose that gives me more options?

and its a 98 pre-facelift if that makes any difference.

I'd say if you are looking at a good cheap upgrade then B5 RS4's aren't bad. Seem fine on my chipped S4. Whole upgrade can be done for under £500am8631 wrote:ive got 18" RS4 B7 reps, i suppose that gives me more options?
Also gives you the option of going for a larger caliper at a later date.

for custom discs and bells, go to rally designs website. there bells come blank so just get the right pcd drilled. come in varying offsets and do wilwood discs in many sizes. at very reasonable prices. i'm doing it when i find some cayenne calipers.

RS4 is the cheapest option. Not track kwality, road driving though they are fine. You need 18" wheels though.
99 Ming Saloon, Tanoga S/S, De-cat APR D/Ps, Miltek catback, Forge DVs, RS4 suspension, K04s, I/Cs, MAF, Clutch, injectors, oil cooler, airbox, Y pipe, spark plugs, front brakes, Vast EFK, Walbro fuel pump, MRC custom tune, 18" B7 RS4 reps, Kumho tyres
I've got front B5 RS4 disks + calipers on my chipped K03 car. I posted about it here.
I don't track my car, and drive mine every day for "spirited" commuting too
The disks are expensive though, expect to pay around £400 for a set. I didn't price the drilled
They make a noticable difference in stopping the car and give some degree of reassurance. The RS4 calipers are a lot (a lot!) less bulky than the stock ones - to the point that they look smaller.
The B5 RS4 brakes are worth a look.
