stage 1 remap question

Im thinking about getting a stage 1 remap done.
Is the difference really notiocable ? or worth it ?as i believe it costs about £500
They say it brings the BHp to over 300 but is that not only the case if your engine hasnt lost any hp over time. Mine has doe 112000 miles so does anyone know what bhp i'd expect to have left?
cheers.

The degradation in performance really depends on how well the engine has been looked after for example servicing oil changes etc. Stage one remap is well worth it, I have an MRC custom remap and no pre-cats and the performance is 328BHP.

Yes! definitely, in my experience.

Whilst there is undoubtedly some degradation in performance over time, mileage is not the only factor.
I drove a Stage 1 (MRC) remapped S4 recently with nearly 200,000 miles on the clock, and it felt faster than my car at that stage of tune (at only 40,000).

The only arguments against I can think of are:
If there are any broken sensors on the car it might cost a bit to put right. For example when I bought mine I needed MAF, one O2 sensor and one EGT sensor. It was running ok during the test drive and until someone looked at the diagnostic trouble codes I thought it was all working. The car needs to be totally happy before the anyone flashes your ecu.
Boost leaks may become evident once mapped.
It's so much fun that you'll soon want even more. It's a very slippery slope and the cars are very tunable.

From my understanding, Stage 1 is anything up to 300bhp and beyond that is Stage 2 which is around the 320-350bhp.

stage 1 is just a flash or chip change that should work in every stock car - it will not be optimised to your car. stage 2 is specific to your car and adjusted timing/fueling/boost that your car is happy with, so you should be getting more power and torque.

i recently had the MRC generic remap put on mine. its now on 102k miles and still going strong.
i had it on the rollers at surrey rolling road and it put out 303bhp and 360lbft. it is well worth doing and that only costs £400 from MRC (the generic map). they know what they are doing and i wouldnt let anyone else work on my S4!

Disappointingly I think its £650 now from the MRC website. £500 I could justify, £650....probably not.

ah, looks like they have changed how they do things now. they no longer offer the 'generic' map that i have...

Yes! The difference is VERY noticable.
Mine is 110k approx, had it remapped not long after I got her and making 315bhp with the custom map (rolling road tested the day after).
Its not just the extra though, its how it comes in that's different IMO. Its just much more fun
What others have said regarding failings elsewhere of the car are shown is largely true I think too, I got a split bi-pipe within a short time afterwards. I am not entirely happy with the replacement samco style hose personally as its not a great fit. Think I will go get an APR bi-pipe instead when funds allow.
The other thing I found, it highlighted just how crap the standard front brakes are for "spirited" driving LOL. Thats another of my tasks to do too, get the £1500 of ECS Stage 4s that I have sat here under my computer desk actually fitted to the car. Will do it eventually...maybe when its warm again LOL

Ahh, they arrived then, bobbler. Nice. Had my car in to get 4 new boots put on, and when the first front wheel came off the lad nearly dropped the wheel while gawping at the size of the caliper
Turns out that at the place I went to, the three lads working on my car all had chipped their cars (I'm assuming remaps, rather than deep-frying, or taking slivers off it to make it lighter, or something), and they added up the BHP output by their cars. It fell short of my stock S4.

I think the website needs updating, the generic map is still £500 as far as I'm aware!!!

Yes the generic map is not shown with a price on, but it used to be £400 for a generic and £500 for a custom. £500 I could just about live with, but the extra £150 over the old custom map is my daughters Xmas! Lol!!

I remember reading some where that the 2.7T engine doesn't really loosen up till it has done at least 20-40K miles. As long as your oil is changed reguarly and car is well maintained you should see 300+ no problem.
The 2.7T engine is an awesome bit of kit, totally over engineered by Audi/Cosworth.
The weak bits are the recirculating valves, throttle body boot and the early Bosch MAFs. All cheap and easily replaced.
