that's exactly what my drivers side k03 sounded like when it went, hot side turbine blade sheared off!, no boost, but no smoke.

OK. resurrecting an old thread...

Turbo failure, left hand side, from inside the car, when boost is building, it sounds remarkably like the sound in the preceding clip.

In addition, there is a rattle at idle.

Is it fair to 'suspect' then that the manifold has separated internally?
What is the exact cause of the high pitched whine? Is it turbo damage? Or boost leak?
If the former, I've now read a few bits to understand what's going on.
If the latter, from where would this be coming (common cause on B5?)

If the manifolds need replacing, would someone post the part numbers to ensure I get the right ones? What price?
