After 8 months of trying to figure out what to do, me and the wife thought we had made the only decision we needed to, keep the s3 or sell and get an s4? We decided to put the s3 up for sale and start looking for an s4 avant. I have been checking this part of the site out for over 10 months now, reading all the good stories about modding and sometime's getting a little concerned with the much talked and hopefully over hyped turbo problems. The BIG problem now is that the wife has seen a nice 03 plate avant for sale and really likes the idea of a newer car instead of a possible 7 year old high millage car. Now i'm sure some of you will be thinking get a grip and put my foot down, problem is i have a work van and the wife has to drive the car everyday! I would like a B5 s4 cause of the endless mod's and the feel of the turbo but i must admit i like the sound of the V8 and i think the interior is a touch nicer.
My question to you guy's and girls out there is - WHAT THE HELL DO WE DO?

If she wants a B, tell her she can have an RS instead!!

Agreed. I did this 15 months ago and i still aint let her drive it!

I did say to her that if we spend more to get a V8 then i think i would rather put the money in an Rs. Like i said, she has to use it everyday so i have to give a little to take a little!
The other thing is comparing running cost's, i.e - petrol, servicing, brakes etc

get a b5,more fun than the v8,the v8 is to heavy dosnt handle aswell but does sound nice.

Comparing standard cars the V8 is a much better allround car. The B5 is softer, were as the V8 much sharper has much better handling, brakes.
The standard B5 needs anti-rollbars firmer suspention and a brake upgrage to match the B6`s ability.

Some issues with the durability of trim, recaro seats standard reducing the rear legroom. Better cabin noise levels at high speed.

Engine splendid, pulls well, fuel range around 250 per tankfull could do with a bigger tank.

I agree, the B6 (V8 ) is a much more complete car than the B5, fuel economy was the thing that put me off, that and the lack of turbos

Lack of turbos is the big issue.....

That engine is a peach though.

No offence intended, but I know I can't imagine my girlfriend getting the hand of warm up and cool down, something you should really respect with the turbos in the B5. I reckon the B6 is your smarter move all round.

Due to us having an s3 at the moment, the wife is preety good at letting it warm up and cool down. The poor woman has it told to her every week by myself, think thats why she'd like the V8 more!!
