RS4 Exhaust on S4..what is involved? How much better sound?

Hi,

I know the RS4 exhaust needs modification to the rear bumper and a new piece to connect the downpipes to the exhaust.

Apart from that, what else might be needed?
- Are the mounting points the same?
- Does it look ok on S4 with bigger rear bumper opening?
- How is the exhaust tone? Any better? Louder or anything?

Thanks!

Alex,

There are several posts about this on this forum. Try a search.
Mounting points are the same.
You don't need to mod the bumper to fit the exhaust if you mod the tailpipes.
The tone is slightly louder particularly at higher revs.

Thanks, it's hard to find those posts, as I did try. I will look again.

I never heard of modding the tail pipes... how can it be done? will search for it...

Cut the tailpipes off and weld a different design on.

Mine has the tailpipes off a Golf R32 welded on.

Is it worth fitting a RS4 B5 back box to my S4 ?

dont think you can do that, back box connects to the downpipes, and those are different lengths on the S4 but the same length on RS4.
I couldnt notice any difference with the sound of the RS4 exhaust, senses were probably overloaded with the extra 70-BHP I had just got with remap etc.

didnt need any cutting of the rear bumber, exhaust just sits a little lower. didnt need any different mounting parts as far as im aware, and I have kept the standard tailpipes

The RS4 backbox goes all the way to the downpipes which are diferent to the S4 downpipes. My dad had the full RS4 system fitted to his S4. Straight bolt on using RS4 downpipes and sleeves to connect backbox to downpipes. Modification is needed to back bumper but in my opinion, get a milltek or scorpion if you want more of a growl. The RS4 exhaust does make a difference in sound and airflow but a performance exhaust designed for the S4 seems to be the best idea!!

if you want the tailpipes to sit/look right, as the RS4 backbox sits a bit lower in the bumper and the tailpipes are wider.

It's a worthwhile and subtle upgrade IMHO, but best combined with a downpipe/pre-cat removal job.

to add to the above.

the RS4 tailpipes sit lower than the S4 ones so once installed you really need to fill the cutout to make it look pukka, here's a pic comparing the two and you'll see what i mean

Thanks a lot... that's what I was looking for. The RS4 actually doesn't look that good?! Sit too low! Not gonna get it then!

Simple task?

Just a case of cutting off the old and welding on two new straight tailpipes over teh holes in the backbox?

I've got a pair of tailpipes sat in the garage I bought a few years back for a project I never got a chance to do. I'll measure them up if your interested.

Though I would think the RS4 box outlets are too low also
