Hi guys,
I have recently purchased a 2000 silver s4 saloon and i am loving it
its done 65k and I need to get the cambelt changed and i would like your advice as to where to get this done.
Obviously i will not be going to the stealers.
i have been to MRC for a health check and after a new MAF and 710s it feels like a new car but i havent got the £700 they quote for the change and i want to get it done sooner rather than later. Or should i save?
I am in the Reading area but i am willing to travel as far north as Milton Keynes.

Firstly, welcome and congratulations on your purchase

Secondly, get that cambelt service done ASAP - although your car is relatively low mileage, the belts (and some of the related parts) are perishable/time related.

MRC know these cars inside out (disclaimer : and so do certain other reputed tuners, and even some of the "stealers" ) and Doug's attention to detail is second to none.

Shop around by all means, but make sure you're comparing apples with apples.
I've never used them myself, but I hear that Dialynx, not far from you, are competitive and also do a good job.

My advice : don't cut corners, a professional and thorough service by an independent specialist is worth every penny IMHO.

As they say you get what you pay for in the long run!!, and if the job doesn't get done properly it will cost>£700.

i will give dialynx a call but if its not £££ cheeper with all the bits changed i will get it down to MRC. i will just have to eat plain rice for a month.

Do a search in here, I think the going rate is less tha £700.

The price depends on what you want done - the £695 is every rotating part on the front of the car. Most places do not replace everything on a cambelt service. Ask them what special tools they use for it as well, as I have had to re time a lot of cars because it is not done properly.

had mine done today with 60k service

picking it up in the morn. not sure how much but he has been fitting cambelts on all vag cars for 20years
but it took about 6 hours for the whole job including some extras.
so it wont be that much
but like doug says-- it depends on how many rolling parts are fitted..
you gotta have at least the rollers and belt done while you have got it stripped.. and even the TBB if you are chipped..

I had a cambelt change at a stealer and they charged me for a water pump on the cambelt change but didn't fit one. It started leaking 10k later and I had to do another cambelt change with a new pump this time. Two days after the change the belt broke-a tensioner had broken. It was stripped down and went back to Audi as it was Audi UK who supplied the parts, and they admitted it was a faulty part and replaced the cylinder heads under warranty. A long and painful process! BEWARE!! Go with those we know and trust...

You won't regret it Mark.

I too need to get the cam belt changed and have been quoted £418 + vat by QST (haywards heath). This seems to include all the parts shown in the earlier post.

although mine is not a S4 but its a 2.4 V6 ive had the water pump,thermostat,tensioner, aux belt,timing belt done by audi specialist in morden ex audi mechanics company is called www.mastertechs.co.uk good service i think even showed me the old parts at a shade under £500 also they said they used genuine audi parts

And how did that happen? Did they test drive it and foul up? Do you want to name the stealership?
