Part Number help needed please. 2001.5 intake manifold

Post by saf » Tue May 08, 2007 10:43 pm

Im trying to find the part number for the intake manifold (suction pipe)

Ive looked through ETKA and there appears to be only 2 of them.

One for the RS4 and one for the S4.

Am I right in thinking that any of the ones ordered now are of the updated 2001.5 variety?

I know of a second hand one that I want to buy in decent condition. Problem is I have a part number

078133201AE

But I dont know how to tell if its an early one pre 2001.5 or a post 2001.5

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

I take it the AC is the one I need then to facilitate things, Or If I can get a BC it doesnt matetr Its still okay but still not too difficult to sort.

They talk about moving the vaccum ports about. Whats that about?

I got an AC one from Vagparts for 180 quid. It's from an Allroad I think.

I'm interested as well,

What are the changes needed fo rthe BC?, I would prefer to go that way to get rid of the F-hose.

Is there a way? can't I just use the correct hoses that the late american cars do, or are there other issues? This has never really been explained, just that people have said that it is a difficult job to move the hoses. What exactly needs to be moved?

Thanks in advance

Nigel :)

So the AC is from the tiptronic. Where is the BC from?

I have both old and 2001.5 (I don't know the version) intake manifolds, I could take some pictures of those for the comparison.

I bought it very cheap, 85 euros including the throttle body, MAP-sensor and Y-hose :)

Where did you get them from at that price?

Some pics would be great.

There are some pic on that link above (second post). They look different. One is polished and ported. Id be interested in polishing and porting when I get mine.

From eBay of course ;)

I will also port and polish it, it is going with the RS4 heads. I'll take the pictures next time when I'm in the garage.

Reference my post on the link above:

Quote:

There are three different manifolds used on the 2.7T engine...

078 133 201 AE
078 133 201 AC
078 133 201 BC

The AE manifold is the original boxy one that is used on the 2000 and early 2001 6-spd S4s.

The AC manifold is used on the tiptronic 00 S4s and the early allroads and A6 2.7Ts. It has the plenum and runner design of the later BC manifold but vacuum port connections similar to the AE manifold.

The BC manifold is the later manifold with the smaller plenum and better intake ports and is used on all of the 01.5+ S4s and later A6 and allroads. This is the one that incorporates the F-hose delete.

To summarise:

So '00 and early '01 S4s who want to upgrade to the newer style manifold should have an easier time using the AC one so that all of the vacuum ports don't have to be replaced.

If you want to delete the F-hose you will need to use the BC manifold.

Loads of info on this topic and possibly all the answers are on AW.

So whats used on the 1998 model and how much work is the new Intake Manifold fitting? I looked at it before and it seems to involve welding etc..
