I've broke my car :(
Was out having a lovely Sat afternoon drive, everything was going well until I went too quick into a corner for the car and it bottomed out, but also at an angle since it was on a corner … anyway, after that if I put any kind of load on the engine I would get loads white/blueish smoke out the back of the car.
So engine off and called the RAC to get it taken back home …
Checked the oil, and it was a min level, even although I had just done an oil change the day before, so I knew it should be full…
Garage picked it up this morning, so lets see what the experts make of it ….

RE: I
Damn. Unlucky. I had a similar experience many years ago in a another car. I was driving a 2 litre Honda Accord at the time, with the lightest power steering I've ever driven. Great car, but a bit old, even 9 years ago.
I'm doing one of my twisty-back-road runs that during rush hour is about 50% of the on-the-motorway time. There's a nice long straight run before a relatively tight corner. I was covering the brake, about to press it, to drop from 60 to 20 for the corner, and I hit a pot-hole hard. I came out of the other side of the corner sounding and accelerating like a tractor. Get to the end of the road and the revs just drop as I brake. They didn't stop at 800, they kept going down, and the engine stalled and died. After a minute trying I got the thing started again, and carried on, still sounding awful. Fun was had balancing hill starts and pedals, and then I get it home. The was pretty much the first opportunity I had to park it sensibly and look under the bonnet.
What did I find? RUBBER ENGINE MOUNTINGS. Hitting the pot hole that hard rocked the engine so hard that 3 of 4 HT leads popped off the plugs - I was running on 1 cylinder. All the leads were as long as needed, rather than all one length, so it was obvious which leads when to which plugs, and it started back up sounding fine. That was a relief, I can tell you. I was also amazed I didn't damage a tyre.
These days, I brake earlier and smoother for corners. Got my AIM Test coming up soon.. uh.. when I book it, anyway. Unfortunately, it won't affect my insurance, because I'm on 9 years no claims...

That was talked about as well because I believe they are weak sumps (well, can crack when given a good thump!) but then I was thinking why only smoke on engine load??JonnyX wrote:Hopefully just a cracked sump. Oil pisses out onto the hot exhaust which is where the smoke comes from. Easy and not
too expensive to get fixed (relatively speaking of course. It is still an Audi)
Maxxxumus, yeah, RS4 lump in my car, and you bet I was enjoying the roads! it was my 3rd time around the TT course that day!

Ahh man that is not good news!! Getting the car over to MRC wont be cheap either. I really hope it turns out to be something simple... I was looking forward to my IOM trip and some fun on the twisties!

yup, been across plenty of times for the TT. is Barregarrow in a left hand dip after an uphill straight and a right hand corner, i seem to think it's only a short blast then before you hit the 30 limit on the entry to Kirkmichael

You'll find it at the 3:20 marker on this video, not the best footage.

yup, that's the one i think, it's hard to tell without the sensation of the gradient and the cornering forces. if it is the one i'm thinking about i'm not surprised yu've done some damage
