Alignment great - Transmission leak bad - help

Help..

just had my wheels aligned - really makes a difference.. should be added to the "things you should do when you get an S4" sticky.

BUT.. whilst under the car we noticed that i have transmission fluid everywhere. There's a banjo on the side of the transmission and it's leaking badly. Is this an AUDI job, 200 mile round trip to MRC, or can us amateurs have a go? :?: it's really easy to get at.

advice gratefully received

cheers

The banjo is probably the connection for the gearbox cooler, it's quite a big bolt size, try to tighten it up gently and without breaking it...

Have you had your clutch done recently? I can't see any reason why that banjo would start leaking out of the blue...

The gear box only has 3 lt of oil in it , so i would not use the car until the oil topped up !!!! The last thing you want is to run the box dry !!!!!!!

i'm not risking it.. there's so much oil all over the bottom of the car.. :(

i'll give it a tighten tonight but it needs oil so booked into the stealers for friday

but they're paying for a taxi each way to work

Poole audi have been impressive since they did a refurb.. but i'll let you know afterwards

Simon,

Whatever you do don't use the car until you know how much oil is in there or it has been topped up to the right level. You don't want to drive the car anywhere with little oil in it - even to the dealers. It will do irreparable damage to the gearbox - don't ask me how I know.

I believe there are 2 copper washers either side of the banjo fitting in which case it could just be these that need replacing.

Audi diagnosis...

the two copper rings are faulty and need replacing as you all predicted.. leak 1

AND the rear gearbox seal is faulty.. leak 2

parts on back order so could be over a week so i get a car on tuesday till parts arrive but it's going to be 3 hours work at Audi rates... ahhh

on that note.. Audi Poole have been really good so far.. taxi's, wash, wax, vacuum and getting me a car while mine is off the road (and they told me my car was immaculate - how sweet) - unexpected for a stealer

do you think my warranty-direct warranty will cover the rear gearbox seal? - doesn't specifically mention it so probably not!

I guess the copper washers are a few pennies each and the rear gearbox seal only a few pounds. Then around £300 to fit them. Wow!
