ash,
ive been thinking about this too, have you seen the hid conversions you can get, powerpack plugs into original 3 prong plug and the lights go where the original one goes, im just not sure of the light output of these for main beam? surely 2 xenons per side would be good!!
theyre cheap off ebay but never tried a set??
cheers

TartanRob upgraded his B5 to Xenon's for mains I beleave. I think he also upgraded the dip beam also.
Mainbeam is a let down compared to dip I must agree!

Weird this - i find it the other way round; my xenons seem a bit dim but main beam is really good - go figure!

my xenons are great i feel, and then main beam just turns everything yellow, but still bright enough for me, would be nice to have dual xenon.

Might be worth giving these guys a go(
http://www.powerbulbs.co.uk/)
I replaced the main beam bulbs in mine and was pleased with the results!
IIRC i got 2 pairs of phillips 50%whiter/brighter for the price of 1.
Heck this sounds like a washing powder ad!!!!!!

Yep, I have to agree Ash - the main beam is $hite compared to the dipped xenons - what have others done?

Guys - the main problem is the lighting wiring on the A4 range. It is poo, I tried higher power bulbs on main beam and they did not work due to the poo wiring, it does not handle high current. The B6 is the same...
I upgraded the dipped to 50watt xenons from the std 35watt. You need to buy the complete kit, bulbs and ballasts, I got them from Supreme power parts in the usa (
http://www.supremepowerparts.com/applications/audi.aspx). I can't find the link on the their website but it might be worth dropping them a mail. The set was about £300.
For the mains I bought a set of full xenon's from ebay, when I say full, I mean bulbs + ballasts (about £100 + or -). The bulbs clip into original bulb seat and you need to mount the ballast away from the elements....not too hot or where it will get too wet. The power to the ballast is taken directly from the std plug.
I can honestly say that for all the mad things I did to the B5, £ for £, that was the cheapest and best mod I have done. The main beam turns into absolutely brutal search`lights (and I mean brutal) and I have done the same on the B6 car. They take a few seconds to heat up, but even on initial power up, they are loads better and then over the next few seconds they get brighter and brighter. It is a great conversion and anyone that drives at night and has a tuned car of any sort should be upgrading the lights anyway. The std lights are poop and you may as well turn them off and use the force to get you home..!

@ Tartan_Rob. Hi Newbie here, this is my first post on rs246.com, I've been watching this site for months doing homework before I take the step and buy a B5 2.7T S4 (hope to do so by feb/march 07) but your last post has intrigued me.
I thought of buying an aftermarket HID kit for my A4 2.6Q and was wondering are you still able to 'flash' oncoming cars with the main beam changed to xenon lamps (the warm up time for HID lamps being the concern)?? Driving in London requires a lot of 'flashing' to other drivers who just dont seem to know how to drive properly, or maybe I'm too ascertive on the road!
By the way, to all who manage and participate on this site keep up the good work. I have never seen a forum as informative and professional as this and I eagerly count the days till I join the S4 fraternity.

B75....that is the slight drawback....
You could fit Xenon one side and halogen the other..? Or prolong the flash for a few seconds instead of on/off. Even on a flash the xenons do come on bright, but like I said, full power is not for a few seconds after. To be honest, if anyone flashed xenons at me and sustained for a long period of time, I would not be happy and would have holes in my eyes by then.

I have been researching this over the last few weeks AW / Net as my eyes aren’t what they used to be (Ref above post) and this is precisely the conclusion / solution I have found.
So nice one Rob!
