Does anybody know what the best route is for the Turbo upgrade? Is it the K04's or is it the Hybrid route?

I'd go with ported/polished/clearanced K04s with uprated inlet pipes (not OEM RS4 ones) and tubular manifolds. But that's because it's what I have in my car and it's just amazin. Hybrids aren't bad either but on OEM RS4 inlet pipes and stock exhaust manifolds they won't really shine compared to only slightly modded K04s.

Sounds good, do you know how much it costs to get that far?

You know I really would like to get a turbo upgrade done on my car but there's this fecking part of my brain which won't let me do it until my K03s start to die.

But there is another part of my brain that is being sneaky and making me take less care of my turbos (a bit more boost than usual from cold start).

Time to get shot of the K03s Dippy.....You'll regret it if you don't !

It's the not letting them cool that will kill them faster

And not warming them up too.

Otherwise you can always put a screwdriver through your TBB and do as if nothing had ever happened... lol!!!!

Agreed, the first time one of my K03s went was because of a really high speed run in 6th gear and the ECU locking up so impossible to restart the car, it just died with litteraly no time to let them cool down, even for a sec after the WOT run. Lesson learnt and that has never happened ever since (that involved some major software changes so this can't happen again whilst real-time mapping).

I think warming a turbo is important but as mihnea says it's the heat soak that kills them.

But my TBB is in a box in the attic so how is that going to help?

Anyway I think we should kill this thread hijack - it might give the wrong idea to new members!

It seems a little odd to me that Hybrids were the thing to have 6 months ago. Now it's ported and polished K04's...

You are so last month. Can you have a ported and polished hybrid?
