ABS cutting in at low speed

Hi all
Some help please!
I can feel my abs cutting in at speeds below 30mph. Not all the time and very slightly.
Obviously this is an abs sensor or sensor ring problem, either dirt or corrosion.
The question is, how do I find out whcih corner of the car is causing the problem, without taking all four corners appart?
Cheers

No ideas, but the same problem. I'm looking for answers too.
Already changed 1 ABS ring and I now have the problem on another wheel!

vag com mate should give you an intermittent fault?
will tell you which wheel sensor it is.

No faults shown on vagcom. If it is dirt on the sensor ring then no fault will be detected.

If you're popping over to Woody's on the 9th we can all take off a wheel each and check which sensor it is? Won't be as knackering that way.

SnapOn do an ABS tool that monitors signals from individual ABS sensors - my local garage has got one and they have picked up 3 damaged sensor rings in a couple of months. One guy with an S4 was planning on upgrading his rear brakes as he thought they were overheating (it was the ABS over-working them!!)

I wonder if you can monitor wheel speeds in vag-com? Anyone know?

You can, but the ABS module breaks the connection to VAG-COM as soon as it cuts in with the pulsing. This makes it pretty useless at diagnosing a faulty ring.
That said, I only have the freeware lead, so the full lead may work better.

Is it not as simple as removing a wheel and the sensor to be cleaned is straight infront of you? ie nothing else needs to be removed?

You need to remove the upright assembly. The abs ring is on the end of the cv joint.
Not a particularly quick job!
