80k Service

Post by hooch » Tue Nov 14, 2006 10:40 am

Can anybody tell me of a decent specialist garage in the Bromley area of Kent, as i've heard horror stories about how much a main dealer charges for an 80k service including changing the cam belt and water pump.. :?

Hooch,

Your specialists are fairly limited throughout the country - let alone Bromley, or Kent for that matter.

Specialists that are not too far are:
MRC in Banbury
AMD in Bicsester and
QST near Haywards Heath.

Many thanks for your help.
I got a quote from Audi at Crawley for about £850 including a 10% discount as the car is older than 3 years, and they even offered to collect and drop off the car the when the works are complete.
I'm considering going with this unless anybody has had any bad experiences with them..

Hooch,

I ask wether they'll change the water pump, tensioners etc ...... as well as the water pump is another common problem that most stealer's over look when they change the belt. I have a garage round the corner from me in dartford that said about changing the water pump with out me even mentioning it, they've done a couple of other jobs on mine and I've used them for the last 9 years. I don't know how much they'd charge to do the job.

Cheers

Got a quote from Audi Coventry of £1060 for full inspection service, cambelt and tensioner but no water pump. Car's done 74k only but they said cambelt needs replacing at 80k miles or after 4 years, whichever comes first.

Sounds a bit steep... will look at alternative options.

Not so sure AmD are particularly cheap. I'd probably rather risk the dealership.

Try www.autoPS.co.uk or www.mrctuning.com or www.qstuning.com or www.dialynx.co.uk.

The first two I can vouch for their service and i will return, have only ever had parts from QST but very friendly and helpful, have read dialynx are reasonable price wise.

That is steep. I have the same done by a stealer back in May, including water pump, plus ALL rollers and tensioners, including all new bolts etc. I think I paid about £900.

My car had it's cambelt changed (+ repair kit) earlier this year at about 74k miles by the Audi stealers in Anglesey. Took it to a specialist for a healthcheck this week and he noticed that it sounds like the tensioners haven't been done properly. Sure enough, when you listen, you can hear the belt chattering when under tension. I'd recommend a specialist rather than a main dealer who doesn't know their way around an S4 properly!
