Tyre Poll
Tyre Poll
I'm currently running 225/40/R18 tyres on my 18" Avus's - they had been fitted on the car just before I bought it and they're a bit crap (Cooper Zeon 2XS) but as they were new I thought I might as well keep them on until they wore out (pretty much now) - I understand that I can fit 235/40/18's on these wheels (anyone confirm this?) - if so what would you all recommend as the best tyres to get...? TIA

RE: Tyre Poll
I am not sure if they come in the sizes you are looking for but whenever tyres come up on here the general consensus seems to be to go for Michellin Pilot Sport 2's if you can afford it, and if you want to save a bit of cash go for Goodyear Eagle GSD 3's.
RE: Tyre Poll
18x8 yes. 18x7.5 not really.
Big brand favorites are Michelin PS (£115) and GSD3s (£105). Kumho ku15 (£76) are a lot cheaper and just as good IMO. Continetals are also much underrated but like the Michelins pricey (£113).
Camskill.co.uk, blackcircles.com and mytyres.co.uk all do cheap tyres.
Search for recent tyre posts someone said there was a place in Banbury or Bicester doing GSD3s at a really good price.

RE: Tyre Poll
well I can thoroughly recommend NOT to get pirelli p6000s as theyre crap!
worth mentioning just incase it saves someone a few thousand miles of slightly less happy motoring

RE: Tyre Poll
haha - LOL! So I don't reckon I'll get the Pirellis then!! Looks like the Michelin PS2s are the faves - just been looking on the web -
£180 per tyre for 235/40/R18s!!! Anyone know of anywhere cheaper??? Also with the PS2 there is the "extra load" version - anyone got these?

Goodyear F1 GSD-3s are my favourite. Fantastic in the dry and amazing in the wet.

Go for the kumho's mate
Lot cheaper.
If you get a flat youre not gonna be forking out great amounts of cash either. At 76 quid they are worth it, and most guys who have these tyres on their S4's say, similar performance and better wear than the ps2's. They also good in the wet and the dry.
Set of 5 would cost you 380 quid. So you got a spare to in that price. Try them. you wont be disappointed from what ive heard. im gonna go for them when i upgrade my alloys.

S4TAN,
If by 18" avus you mean B6/B7 S4 18" OEM wheels, then the 235/40 tyres will fit fine - in fact, that's what they're fitted with as standard.
I've had the Contis on mine, but I'm now considering the GSD3s but at £76 a corner I'm seriously considering the Kumhos - anyone have any reasons why not...?

RE: Tyre Poll
If the kumhos or any other tyre do the job how you like, go for it. But come on, don't worry about price or skimp. We all have serious cars and there are four patches keeping us in contact with the ground.
Don't get me wrong - I don't really want to enter a debate if the Kumho's are good or not - I haven't tried them I don't know. However, unless you think they are a contender for the best, don't let £50 a corner difference sway you!

RS7 FL best car I've owned. No faith in turbo oil screen (turbos failing) or sticking oil scraper ring causing missfires.
F10 M5 LCI still no rear grip lol

i run 235/40/18 all round, 8inch rim I thing. I run Dunlop SP sports, I had these on the M3 and they were good, on the S4, they are <beep>. really <beep>, car breaks away at every opportunity and last night I lit all 4 wheels up in the dry in 2nd gear. 3rd gear all 4 light up in the wet. I know the car has big torque but the Eagle F1's were not doing this....the only way to know is to try them. I may try the Khumo's next, failing that, what about Toyo's? Some big power RS4 run them without problems and they are good pricewise as well. Bracknell Tyres is the place for tyres...I was £440 for the Goodyears fitted.

Its' about time we had another debate about tyres
I've no experience with 18's but here's my 2p.
Toyos: as good as anything i've tried in the dry and amazing in the wet. They are soft though, only lasted 2/3 as long as other branded tyres and they are noisy at motorway speeds. Cheap though.
Michelin PS2's: Lasting very well and pretty grippy, behind the Toyo's wet and dry and the ride is noticeably harder. Good choice overall, decent value.
Pirelli P6000's: Came with car and I put a second set on before I knew any better. OK in the dry from memory but very poor in the wet, not very cheap and they did not last long either. Thumbs down.
Bridgestone S02 Pole Position: Fantastic, anyone know where I can get some more ? They are the only road tyre I've come across that lasts OK with track use. That might be because the rubber is so hard by now, I think they were discontinued a few years ago.
I've bought a set of Pilot Sport Cups now so will try them out and report back.

Any one tried BF Goodrich G force on the S4? I had them a while a go on my civic type R and the grip was immense with them on in the wet and dry. Mate had them on his 328i bmw and could not get the arse end to step out when pushing it he said they were the best tyre he has. Now for the best bit 225/40/18 sets me back £85 fitted at a BF Goodrich dealer. If i get a puncture then they replace it for new one and all i have to pay is for the labour to swap it over. It has a lifetime warrenty against punctures as long as there is reasonable tread (up to half way) then they will replace it.
They might turn out to be a bag of crap on the S4 but if no one has tried them then i will next time and report back.
