Possibly a new S4 owner soon.........

Post by AdamS4 » Wed May 24, 2006 1:16 pm

Hi all

My first post.... woooo :D

Been reading up on the S4's and i'm very interested in getting one. At the mo, i'm driving a BMW E36 325i Coupe but want a newer, faster and turbo'd car (Used to have a RS Turbo so needing the erge for that unmissable turbo pulling power). Coming from a BMW, most people expect to go for the E36 M3 Evo but i feel if i get another E36, its not going to feel like a new car for me.

Whats a good price for a S4 ? Seen them going for anywhere between 8 and 12k. I was thinking of getting one around 8/9k mark and then spending a little on it, making sure all the normal issues with S4's are delt with i.e Cam belt, water pump etc etc.

TBH, i'm not really fussed about going for a Avant either, be great for moving stuff and my hobbies :D

I haven't had the pleasure of driving or being a passenger in one yet, but as soon as i have the money, i will be :)

So what i'm really asking is, what kinda of budget should i set myself in order to get a S4 ?

Thanks in advance 8)
Adam

Budget wise you can go from 8 to 16k, most expensive one I have seen. they are pretty expensive to run. I would guess your BM will be much more economical than the S4 but prob a bit slower too. If you do intend to play with the S4 they can be made very fast for little dosh ( presuming you do most of the work yourself)

My car must be close to 350bhp now and 370ish lbs torque. I must say it is pretty damn fast now and as you say there is no other feeling like a turbo kicking in.

Do a search on here there is loads of info on this site its just a case of finding it.
BMW 540i
2018 GTR
F90 M5
X3MC
RS3 Saloon
RS7 FL best car I've owned. No faith in turbo oil screen (turbos failing) or sticking oil scraper ring causing missfires.
F10 M5 LCI still no rear grip lol
S7 black Edition Too big and heavy
S3 8V FL DSG 310ps, road noise is a joke
RS3 8P Rubbish
C7 RS6 Fantastic car but missed playing
GTR R35 800bhp, too extreme, crazy fast though
911 Turbo Remapped. Hated it
F10 M5, awesome but no rear grip
RS6 V10 700BHP crazy
Porsche Cayenne Turbo S 600bhp

e36 beemers are preety bullet proof. The only worry with them was the nikasil issue a bit ago on the 328 that used to cause premature bore wear but most of these got sorted under warranty.
I thought about an evo when i bought this car but the Vanos proble put me off. Also in a country that rains most the time the s4 makes a lot more sense, plus they are a lot more subtle. Either way when you get one your not going to look back!

I had an E36 Evo and a 328 and the wife an E46 325 (dullest car ever).

The S4 is a welcome relief and in std guise will make mince of the M3 in all but higher speeds due to the torque.

AdamS4 - Re price points - There are been a few posts where people of said what they paid for their cars. In case it helps, I recently paid £8k for a totally standard black 1999 facelift S4 Avant with 88k on the clock with cloth trim (soon to be replaced with Recaros)

well ok maybe its not that subtle, but the rest of the car is!i was 21 when i got my s4 and i got enough stick for buying a 4 door saloon then off my mates (pipe and slipper jokes etc etc). Its only the colour that suggests it may be mine instead of me having nicked it off my dad! the thing im more worried about is that ive actually started looking at avants in a different way recently as well. Ill be wearing a barbour wax jacket and owning a pair of labradors before you know it....
