Depends on your sender, I used to get 40 miles. New sender gives me 30 miles from the orange light coming on. By the time I hit the red I'm looking for any petrol station.
I have got 59.8 litres in mine before now. S4 saloon, it was spluttering into the petrol station. I believe Avant has a slightly bigger tank.

My DIS reads @ 55 miles when the petrol alert comes on. I've NEVER even tried to see how far to go, as I'm never that lucky!!
Usually do at the most 20 miles, then give her a drink

Mine reads about 20 miles
I guess it all depends on how you drive and whether youre doing local miles, heavy traffic, or long runs.
I do a lot of local so its low miles for me.

My DIS nearly always warns me when it has a range of 30 miles to go.
When it reads 0 there is still a fair amount left. The most I did is about 20 miles of low-speed driving after the 0.

Varies hugely... 50-30 miles. I have driven on 0 miles once or twice before (In my 2.8 quattro - never in the S4) - but I believe when it says 0 miles it really is pretty much 0 miles & never try push it. Audi-sport.net - there was talk of this a while back and a fwe had commented on their cars dying AT 0 miles.

I can't imagine that running a car too close to the bottom of its tank can be a great idea anyway - there's all manner of particulate crap at the bottom of the tank, especially if the car has been regularly filled with supermarket shiite fuel. that will then be at a higher risk of blocking filters, lines, screwing with injectors etc. Certainly, i've heard from (and seen "blind" trials of) companies that ultrasound clean injectors that they can tell immediately which cars have been run on supermarket fuel as opposed to eg Optimax. One of the best adverts for optimax/ultimate there is, i think.
Just my 2p.....

Did this at the weekend. My light came on last Friday morning so I drove to work and back (16 miles). Saturday morning I played golf at Moor Park (8 miles, by this time the DIS was reading '0' and the needle was slightly below the thick red block) and then I drove to Tesco in Slough (12 miles) to get some squirt.
Driving on egg shells and obviously still had some miles left as there was evident spluttering.
Don't recommend it though.
