Ok forgetting the accident, i have QUESTIONS!

Post by Pherral » Mon Apr 17, 2006 4:45 pm

1. OK i have wires going to the bottoms of the 2 front seats but no switch on the dash to turn on what im assuming is the heating. Whats the chances of the wires been in there and it just been the case of getting the buttons and puting in a fuse?

2. Kind of the same for the headlight. is it likely to have the motors for altering height? id look but cant open bonnet cos its mangled.

3. Is there a decent manual i can get my hands on , cos the hanes book of lies doesnt do S4's....

4. My insurance wants a good alarm, whats a good one with valet mode? i was think of some clifford model.

5. (added) When testing the brakes, the back wheels lock easily even though it was just M.O.T.'d. Can i assume it was a dodgy M.O.T. and my ABS is broken?

Thanks for the answers in advace

Kev :P

1. Plugs under the seat are for the irbag

2. Xenon headlamps are self levelling. no switch required!! (Unless, like mine, they very rarely sometimes decide to lower to about 4 feet in front of the car!.

3,Not sure.
4. Not got anything other than standard.

P.s. put a wanted ad in the sales section.(after you've registered to it) Someone hopefully will have a bonnet,

tell the insurance company it has a factory fitted alarm/immobilisor, from previous postings on here it seems they generally accept them as suitable. err...........then test it to make sure it's working, my sounder was goosed, 75 quid from Audi. the back brake thing is a bit worrying. if the back locks up at speed there's all the chance the car will go sideways. the ABS should kick in but surely more braking force should be passed to the front wheels via the EBD to prevent the rears locking before the ABS kicks in

The abs module also acts as a compensator.
But if there was anyhing wrong with your abs, the dash woud let you know!
It can lock quite easily when it's not working. IIRC it says so in the manual

Do you have access to vagcom?

No idea what vagcom is, im rather new and still trying to figure out all the terms and slang, i noticed that when i start my car the abs light doesnt even come on which according to the manual it should so........i think someones removed the light bulb from it to pass the M.O.T. Boooked it into get a cobra alarm fitted and hopefully this will sort my remote locking. Want a desent alarm and i dont think the factory on will be as good.
Thanks for the replys guys. ALWAYS happy to get advice :D

I looked into getting a Clifford when i first bought it but decided against. Even with a tracker and top notch alarm cars can still be low loaded and trackers failing to give a signal.

Crims are becoming more sneaky and violent - if they want your motor bad enough theyll get it. Also seems that if they know what immobiliser its got beforehand they can find a way round it.

Iv got a disklok - you cant beat a good physical deterrent.

nothing beats a determined criminal, have heard stories from friends where the crims have broken into the house, or attempted break ins just to get car keys....... if they want it that bad, let them take it.

if your in the house when they break in, do you really want them comming upstairs to find your car keys on the table beside your bed, or would you rather they found them in the kitchen and buggered off?

if they want it that bad, they can have it, life is too short.....

If there was a fault with the abs. The dash display will come up with a big red sign and it will beep 3 times. The yellow abs light should be on briefly when the ignition is switched on, then it should go out.

Vagcom is software you use to determine problems with the car(plug a laptop into the socket in the rear ashtray).
Have a look on www.ross-tech.com.

where are you based?
Have a look on http://www.frappr.com/vagcomuk/map
Its in the DTC/VAGCOM section on this site
Someone in your area may be able to help

I aint loaded either!!
If it is the same problem as my abs. The abs module went. Some bloke on ebay does a recon one for £220. Search for thread on here as it has been mentioned in the past. A new one is over a grand!!

If it's just a wheel sensor, then they're only about £80 each.

It's a dear ol' game owning an S4 :?
