first time modder - it's chip time !

Post by M1L35 » Thu Jan 26, 2006 1:39 pm

Hi all - just signed up.

Come to pick your brains - is this a good idea I wonder, well here goes.....

Had my S4 Avant completely original for 2 years now.

Was going to swap for an A6avant Quattro - Till I drove one!!!!! :?

PLAN B.

Modification time - now I think I have identified mrc as the guys to talk to.
Current plan is for th emilltex cat back dual pipe, and a mrc2+ tune.330+

What other mods should I be considering - the short shift seems to be a common one.

Is there an initial suspension tweak that I should consider.
thanks

The order I would recommend (IMHO) is:

a) Brakes
b) Lighting
c) Oil Cooling
d) Outright Performance
e) Suspension

Unfortunately, a is most expensive to goto next step if you are talking about serious brake upgrades. doing d first will enevitably require the rest needing to be done but in any case MRC are your best port of call for any tuning work and they will be able to give you impartial advice on the rest. The S4 is such a good base to start from...

My order is:
Short Shifter
Remap
Suspension
Brakes
Exhaust

I still haven't done brakes/exhaust yet, but I would recommend if you are going to do the exhaust, to do the full system as just the cat back will not have anywhere near the same effect.

I'd get the exhaust done before the remap myself.

Very good list I reckon,

If you plan on track use, I'd change in to:

Short Shifter
Brakes
Suspension
Remap
Exhaust

Thanks for all the above - I don't plan on doin track days at the moment. Are the brakes really that deficient - £2k's a lotta dosh.
Brake wise, is it worth just putting some green/red stuff pads in?
What's with the lighting Rob, do you mean lightening ?
I have asked doug @ mrc for his advice as well.

Booked in for the 11th Feb (valentines pressie to myself !!)

RE: Lighting, I have upgraded my dipped beam from 35watt Xenons (std) to 50watt Xenons and my main beam now also runs full Xenon's (with ballasts etc)...both are seriousely bright and I mean seriousely.

I found the std main beam poor when considering the ability of the car...now I have no such probs on the quiet dark motorways...

Mikeyquattro is probably doing the right thing with brakes unless you want to do a calliper upgrade....I have gone the whole hog in the brake department as I tow a lot and want the extra stopping power.

oo....50w Xenons!!! I bet those xenons werent cheap! Where did you get them from?
I too think the std ones are a bit crap.... My mate with an R32 has considered ditching them for std lights with uprated bulbs he thinks they are so crap.... so he'll be in for a set too....
Mark.
