What to do before buying as used S4
What to do before buying as used S4
Get VAG-COM. It's useful to have anyway, but after reading this post http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... ic&t=51199 as an example, it seems to me that checking and clearing DTCs (to see if any come back) before buying, could save a lot of hassle!

there's a "free" shareware version which has some functionality disabled.
you can either buy a generic OBDII cable off ebay (cheap), which the shareware version of vag com works with...or buy a genuine cable from vagcom - I got mine from http://www.vag-com.co.uk/ who seemed ok.
genuine cable has a dongle which makes the software magically registered.

Is that the fairy magic that lets us all discuss cars on the webernet or is it the goblin magic that gets over 300hp out of a 2.7 litre engine?cpufreak wrote:...genuine cable has a dongle which makes the software magically registered.

Let me get this straight, you are trying to decide if the "MRC crew" are Fairies or Goblins?

Also from that post you should learn to never buy a car unless you are allowed to do a pre-purchase inspection and you should always do a pre-purchase inspection if you are capable. I was capable of having it done, but was so head-over-heels for this car that I rushed to get it and chose to pick it up on a Sunday instead of going on a work day where I could have insisted we take it to an AoA dealer for an inspection first. There was 5k worth of work the car needed OTHER than the Transmission stuff as well.

Is it me or does anyone else think that £150+ for a cable with 2 plugs on it is a bit on the steep side?
Tomorrow is another day
RE: Re: RE: What to do before buying as used S4
If that's just for the cable then yes, but if you're talking about a cable & software license package then certainly not.
