Removing Maf

Having read on this forum how it is a good idea to clean the Maf as a service item...I looked into it.

The initial problem I had,,,where I had to halt proceedings was the fixing.

Mine is held on with 2x torx allen fixings,,,,but the head of the bolt seems to have a small spike in the middle where they are normally hollow....sorry for the description...but it would mean the torx/allen key itself would have a small locating hole in the middle of it.

Could anyone please tell me what type of fixing this is please and where I can buy a key to fit.....many thanks.

Any motor factor or tool shop should have these. You need to make sure you get the right number of lugs, they come in two flavours five point and six point.

On another thread a couple of people say they can be removed with a flat screwdriver.

When I did mine, I took the whole MAF unit out, rather than just the sensor - much easier if you don't have the right tool ;-)

Me Too. Then I wanted to check the sensor anyway so went and bought some screw driver bits.

:D

I bought a 7 piece set of 5 sided star bits from Halfords for £9.99 they fit a treat.

Thanks for the responses guys, I think i will try and buy the correct tool, so that the car doessn't appear butchered.

I already have a halfords 5 star set which is why I thought I would give it a go,, the keys just don't have a locating hole in the middle...I will go and have another look, but have never seen this type of bolt head before...cheers
