Crack in spare wheel.

During my recent service I was told my spare had a puncture, so I took it in the Elite in Reading for them to see if they could repair the tyre.

Unfortunately they found that there was a crack in my spare wheel! Odd because whilst it has obviously been used it appears to be in pretty good condition.

Very strange. I must say that I (fortunately!) haven't had to use the spare, but I am surprised that nobody has noticed this before in the 3 years I have had the car (bit embarassing really.....).

Or has some smart chap swapped the wheel over. Apart from servicing etc I lost the car for a week after it had all 4 wheels stolen and had to have a new bumper last year after someone ran in the back of me (court case next week!).

New wheel is £330 (inc VAT) from Audi or £190 or so (+VAT) from VAGparts.

When I get my coilovers fitted and finally sort out the ABS controller, with recent regular servicing, tax, MOT and tyres (4xPS2s  ), plus some paint after a rather too close encounter with a gateway in Devon ( not such a cheap holiday after all), I will have spent the best part of £3K on the damn thing in the last 2 months, so if anyone has a spare 17" Avus wheel that they don't need I would be interested. It doesn't have to be pristine, but not too bad. Most of what I have seen on Ebay are sets of 4.

David,

This one ended just the other day with no bids. Might be worth contacting the seller:

Good luck.

David,

If you don't have any luck, we might be able to come to an agreement. My spare wheel is a 17" Avus with an almost brand new Toyo Proxes tyre on it (been used twice for a few days only after I've had punctures). I think the wheel is in very good condition (I'll need to check), on account of it being newer than the others because I thought that one of my original rims was causing an air leak so bought a new one.

I kerbed one of my RS4 replicas a month or two ago and repaired it myself. Not too bad a job, but certainly not professional. I can live with it, but selling you my Avus wheel might be justification enough for me to buy a new RS4 replica and make the kerbed wheel the spare.

Let me know if you're interested.

Dippy,
Does the 18" wheel and tyre fit in the spare wheel well OK?
I know the RS4's had a space saver and only assumed this was because the 18" didn't fit.

John
