2001 S4 Avant 2.7 - Fuel Economy

My wife and I are thinking of getting one. I've already got an RS2, but I was wondering what the 'real' economy is for a standard 4 year old or so 2.7 Avant - Average driving around town and motorway cruising.

It's about the only sticking point as I think it wins hands down in the practical kids mover / quality sports car combination department.

I'd say about the same as the RS2 ~ 23mpg if driven hard (but not thrashed, or tracked) or ~28mpg if driven by my missus (yours might be different :thumb: )

I get between 18 and 33mpg. The wife gets more but does not use turbo's much. Towing an 800kg boat with wetsuits and toys etc I get mid 20's, thats doing between 55 and 70mph.

You dont get much more than 300 miles per tankfull iro 45 quid.

You may need to look at the rear leg room if your kids are tall??

I got rid of my RS2 for the S4 i have now.Although mine has been remapped - my RS2 was too- I personally find it uses more fuel than my RS did
Equally it is a V6 and has the extra 500cc too.......

Mind,Its a cracking car though

Wow,
I'm getting around 21mpg but a lot of stop start driving and notice a massive difference even if do one motorway trip. Most I have got from my tank is 285 miles, most I got from my S3 was 315 miles. Now I have my MRC remap I'm keen to see how things change particularly as my MAF and BPV's were knackered...!

Guys - I'm not sure if my car is running too lean. I get approx 380-410 mles per tank (if I drive sensible ish and not thrashing it everywhere). Any idea if the REVO SPS3 dongle can alter the fuel/air mixture and richen it up a little to see what happens?

No, only boost & timing on the S4.

It became evident that after I had the Revo trial I was running lean.....

My fuel economy has remained the same since revo (apart from when thrashing lots...), so I don't think I can blame them for that. Any thoughts on how I can richen the mixture?

I have just come back from a trip to Austria, 2300 mile round trip with a lot of it on the Autobahn at high speed. I returned nearly 26mpg, which i was more than pleased with, and i was not even trying.

UK motorways it is easy to get 30mpg

We've had this topic come up a number of times now and it is clear that for balanced driving (mixture of "spirited" driving and off-boost driving, urban driving and motorway driving), that 300 miles per tank (and I'm talking all but the last few litres) is to be expected on average.

Naturally there will be variations. A lot of motorway driving (not at silly speeds) will get a greater range. Sitting in stop/start traffic kills the economy, as of course does excessive use of the turbo!
