My 1999 S4 with 50k miles up, had K04's fitted 6 months & 6k miles back. On taking off the lower intercooler hose on drivers side got a tea cup full of oil, passenger side fine, some but not enough to be worried about.
Slight oil loss since last oil change, no negtive effect on power, boost seems ok to me, no noise, no smoke, even at startup. Car driven easy, excess 300 miles per tank always, seldom over 5k revs.
Any suggestions as to what the problem could be and how to go about diagnosing it without more expensive wallet surgery???

When did you last take off the hose ? It could be that it's left from your old turbo's . Try to get as much out as you can & then take a look in several week's , IF you get a large amount of oil i would start to think about getting it looked @ . GRIZZ

Would look at your BPV's see if their is a split, notice any surging, poor throttle response, VAG Com logs?

New Bpv'S (hyperboost) and F hose fitted at same time as K04's, no sign of split or bulge, it is most unlikley that any oil from old turbo's would have been left in pipes.
The upper end throttle response may not be perfectly linear, I was putting it down to the combination of the K04's with standard exhaust.
Will recheck in a few weeks, and access logs,
How would I check the breather system?

on a RHD car I would expect more oil in the passenger side as the PCV system vents into the Y-pipe on that side and
tends to get blown through. Clean it out (carb cleaner works pretty well) and check again in a few weeks.

you can get intercooler cleaner from landrover too

Hmm that's an odd one. Most folks including myself have notied oil in the passenger side pipes. However, I've heard of other cars accumulating that amount of oil but not the S4/RS4.

I don't want to alarm you but the last time I heard of that amount of oil in the intercooler pipes it was when my RS4 needed new turbos last year when one of the oil seals gave up.

No smoke or loss of power/oil. Just one incident in 2 months when the car went into limp mode but reset itself upon switching the ignition off. VAGCOM told me there was a intermittent prob with the lamda reading. Upon closer inspection by Audi this was the oil contaminating the sensor. You can see the pics of my experience in my gallery. having said that it could well be something else.
