Questions from new S4 owner.

Hi, I picked up my 42k unmodified S4 last week, all is going well and I am loving the torque.
The service indicator suggests a service is due in 2000 miles.
I have spoken with Audi and due to their 100+ quid an hour labour rate I wondered if there was a decent specialist I should also consider, ideally not too far from Kent, S/E London.
Secondly, tyres. Is there a particular brand of tyres that really suit this S4?
Currently running on Michelin pilots, two of which may need replacing in the next few months.
I am normally not happy with different matching pairs running on different axles, is this a problem on a 4wd car...should I just stay with the existing pattern of Michelin?
Thanks for any assistance you, more experienced S4 drivers can offer.

Fontain will soon be doing servicing at around £60 an hour I think. They arent that close to you thats all (near Slough) but they are S4 specialists.

Hi and Welcome.....
If you up for a drive to Haywards Heath then try QST, I have found them very good, friendly and resonably priced for a specialist service. Although they are not cheap!
I just feel more confident in them. I turned up to my local East Kent Audi and the mechnic came out a looked at the car and said "never worked on one of these before" at which point I got in and gave it 265 horses out the car park......

On the tires, I would keep them matched on the car.... If the rolling radius of the tyre from front to back is different enough the car might detect something it should not and cause you problems.....
I would maybe put the fronts on the back as they will wear fast on the front, and hopefully give you a few more miles then change all 4 at once. I know its expensive but the S4 despite its looks is a complex and serious machine!

Second that regard QST, not cheap but they were very professional and did a good job. I don't use Audi dealers on principle, principle being they don't know anything about anything. I have an independant specialist locally who does all my servicing, would suggest posting in tuning forum for a Kent specialist.

I think you will find that the PS2's are quite highly regarded - good grip, hard wearing but a little noisy.
I would definitely keep them matched all round - they are your only contact with the road and thus rather important!

I agree about matching tyres. I also think that the S4 runs well with Michelins. The original PSs had a 'B' version specially designed for the quattro. I don't think the PS2s are, but I am running PS2s on mine and they are definitely the best tyre I have had.

AFAIK matching tyres is a must on any 4x4, all four wheels are driven at the same speed, makes common sense they should be the same size?
Got Kumho Ecstas ku19's on mine, stupidly cheap (£300 inc fitted balanced etc...) Supra 712 are cheaper but were out of stock, get some really good reviews on AW.
Can't compare them to anything other than the previous Fuldas it had on it when I bought it. The Kumhos beat them hands down. Great grip in the wet and dry.

Many thanks for the responses guys...
QST look good, but considering there is little difference in price to Audi service costs...I will probably keep the "F.A.S.H"
I tend not to keep my cars that long and it cannot do the re-sale any harm.
Michelins it is then,,as and when.
Cheers .
