Has anyone removed the front bumper from their car before? Exactly how simple(ha,ha) is it to remove the bumper on the S4? Any BTDT's.........?

Dead simple,
1)Remove the undertray
2)Remove the 3 or 4 torx screws that hold the wheel liner to the bumper
3)Remove the 2 5mm hex bolts inside the wheel liner that hold the end of the bumper to the wheelarch
4)Remoce the 2 6mm hex bolts that are located through the front grills and attache the bumber support to the engine bay
5) Pull.

I would change point 5 to:

Pull, swear, pull harder, collarpse into a gibbering heap. It's only when you reach the stage where
you think "F*** this, this bumper is coming off whether it breaks or not" is when you pull hard enough
to get it off. ymmv.

Glad I got the dealer to fix my headlight washer pump then. It may have set me back £200 but Jonny's description bears an uncanny resemblance to me in such situations.

I would also change point 5 to Jonnys method, but add that if you press in at the front it levers the clips at the side allowing the rearmost part in the wheelarch to be released first. Do the same on both sides then it will come off (showering you in washer fluid as you have forgotton to unclip / block the lines)

It's an EVIL job, not due to it being technical, just fiddly.

Did I mention trying to line it up properly afterwards?

I can't wait to see how much fun this will be when I attempt to DIY my RS$ IC's....

'mmm.In 2 minds whether to attempt it now.We'll see.

I removed mine a few weeks ago, well nearly removed it, just enough so that i could re-attached the side of the bumper after the GF pulled it off.

Removed all the parts as described above appart from the washer lines. Was not too much of a problem.

Got the luxury of a day off today, so decided to have a go getting the front bumper off. How on earth does it pull off? The bolts/torx screws came out no problem, and the bumper is quite loose. Just a matter of pulling the thing off

Yes, point five is a bit simplistic.
I think its called character building!

Tip: Remove the headlamp to do the headlamp waser jets, you may also be able to do the pump....Cant remember. bonus if so, only three bolts and connector hold it in.

Right. Its off. I can offer a bit more advice on step 5.

When the bolts are undone and the bumper is loose, if you look inside the wheelarch,riveted to the bumper is a moulded angle/ piece of short wheelarch. This actually bends slightly; just enough to see what the side of the bumper clips onto on the inner wing.

With this bent you can see were the bottom clip is in place.You can get a flat bladed screwdriver and lever this up, and as if by magic the top clips just pop out themselves

Refitting is a reversal of removal

Seriously, 20-30 minute job tops, no heavy handed tactics needed.

Do you need to remove the bumper to replace a fog lamp or could you do this through the head light also?

If its a foglamp there is no need to remove the bumper at all. The grill and suround piece where the fog light is pulls off. Grip the piece in the center and it just pulls off.
You can then see the foglamp bolted in place, although the bulb can be changed by unscrewing the holder at the back.......
