ok, so my sidelight on the drivers side has decided to stop working. So i think to myself, ok, i'll pull the blown one out.........check all the details on it and go and buy some white/blue ones from halfrauds.

so i get the audi manual out. read it......understand it. Go out in the rain and pop the bonnet :

and i cant get to the sidelight bulb to unhook it and pull it out.

Have a look at the attached picture from the audi manual.......and have a look where my sidelight actually sits in reference to the manual's picture.

any ideas ?

how emabarrasing ! i can't even change a poxy sidelight bulb !

no one has had to change their sidelight bulbs then ?

Have you removed the airbox trunking etc?
These are special halogen bulbs from memory and are quite long.
Ages since I've changed one, looks like the same for the others too.
Will look at mine sometime tomorrow and let you know for sure.
Didn't experiance any problems when I did mine that stick in my mind,so cant be too difficult.
I do know all the later cars 2001> B6 require removal of headlight for bulb replacement.

NEXT DAY

Ok the side light is behind the cover for the main beam bulb so no need to remove Xenon unit.
Just pushes in on a rubber grommet, no clip to remove on mine doddle.
When refitting, dont touch the glass of the bulb, keep hold of base and loom, look at the hole through the front of the headlight to position the bulb, switch on side lights even to make it easier.

You should have the cap. discharge lights "Xenons" if it's an S4, with the ballast unit on the back. By the time you've done struggling it's easier to remove the headlight unit from the car and then open the back up to get at the sidelight bulb.
Take note whilst you're in there (ref one of my earlier posts) there's a sprung catch which enables swapping to RH dip as used abroad.

thanks guys, yeah i've removed the airbox trunking, so i think i might just take the headlight out and be done with it !

I did mine the other week, only took about 5 min.

Remove the air duct behind the headlight, take off the cover for full beam and remove the bulb and carrier for the side light, oh and, the bulb from halfords is not the correct one. The correct one has a bayonet fitting so twist and remove teh buld and them take the bulb somewhere and get it matched up.

If you go to the dealers parts dept, they are only about 70p.
